Hi Steve,
Thanks for rising to the 'why I wrote the darned thing' suggestion. I think the process is just as important as the end product. I started to write after a serious illness put paid to my squash playing days. What would I do to replace all the time I'd spent chasing a little rubber ball round a room (a crazy activity, I know)? I took a creative writing course and tried all sorts of writing, finally settling for the long distance kind. Because I'd lived for many years in Central Africa, I decided to write 'what-if' books. What if someone arrived in Africa at a certain time in history - that sort of thing. And I found that I loved it. The process took me back to Africa, more or less every day, and the plots simply grew and grew ... like Topsy. I left Africa for Iran for my third book, which drew heavily on an overland trip to India in the seventies. Again, I was back there, sweating it out in a LandRover with my then travelling companions (names changed to protect the innocent). I can't think of a better way to spend time. My last two books (so far unpublished) I wrote as NaNoWriMo's (a book in a month) and are totally different to my first three. That's my potted 'why I done it' account. MJ |

Beautifully done on the Kai Lung sample. Very nice work.
You'd better shamelessly plug it when it comes out so I can buy it. If you don't plug it, I'm afraid I'll have to send my dead cat after you. ![]() Don |

Steve,
I've just looked up your webpage. I shall look at it carefully, since I'm seriously thinking of buying an e-reader. Dr Drib, I surrender - don't set the horrible beastie onto me - here's my shameless plugs, in order of publication: Matabele Gold, The African Journals of Petros Amm, Two Days in Tehran. Published by BeWrite Books (site out of commission temporarily) but they can be seen at Smashwords. They're all historically accurate regarding context, but all shamelessly made up in the best traditions of fictitious invention. I'd be eternally grateful for any comments (even critical ones - he said through gritted teeth) either on this site, and/or on Amazon.co.uk. Shamelessly yours, MJ |

All right then, I'll happily plug :-)
My SF novel The Inferior has been translated into 9 languages and is available for sale in pretty much all formats. Sample chapters, again, in various formats, are available here (along with FREE, previously published, short stories). Here is a blurb: Alien races are hunting mankind to extinction through the ruins of a vast city. Poisons are everywhere, but a simple rule keeps the survivors going: if it's intelligent, it's food -- the same species that savour human flesh make good eating themselves. And then one day, a woman falls out of the sky and lands amongst the tribe. Can she save them from destruction? Or has she brought it with her? One young man, seen by his people as little more than a stuttering imbecile, aims to find out. First, he'll have to guide the stranger through a fascinating world teeming with sentient, ravenous aliens. |

No apologies necessary! Hope you recommended an organic cleaner, though.
Over the weekend I opened up a new store at Cafe Press: SteveJordanBooks Merch. Check out the dedicated thread for more details! |

Only in Boomerang can you read the actual dying words of the founding father of the modern FBI, J. Edgar Hoover.
Crawford hurried back into the room and once more knelt next to Hoover. He took in two deep breaths to steady his nerves, leaned in close, and was just about to pinch the great man's nose when Hoover began to sing. Softly, so softly that if the two men had not been almost lip to lip Crawford might not have heard. “A, B, C, D, E, F, G,” Hoover sang the school house rhyme to the tune of “Twinkle-Twinkle, Little Star”. “You're alive!” exclaimed Crawford. Hoover’s right arm swung up and grabbed the gardener by the back of the neck. “Listen,” said Hoover. “I called Mr. Wilson, Boss. Just like you told me." “Wilson?” “Yes sir. He'll be here before you know it.” The grip tightened on Crawford's neck. “Juh,” Hoover breathed. “Af...ter......juh” Crawford nodded as best he could with the death grip around his neck. “You bet, Boss,” he said. "After juh." What was that all about? “Juh-ee.” Hoover’s voice was fading into near vapor. “After......g.” “G?,” Crawford repeated. "You mean like the letter g?" Hoover’s eyelids blinked in what seemed to be the only response he could muster. And then it came to Crawford. Of course. After G. “H, Boss” he said. “H comes after g.” The grip tightened fiercely around Crawford’s neck, then released, and it was then that J. Edgar Hoover lay truly dead. Okay, so I guess you can read them here. But the rest of the story is darned good too. And the $.99 Smashwords coupon is good just through tomorrow. CU67Y. |

A plug for Wesley Allison (and a deal):
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78374 http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/11536 A book so good that I haven't read it, don't really know what it is about, and yet still deserves a plug. ![]() -John P.S. This thread is great idea, however maybe we could use another thread which is a little less wanton and gratuitous. I initially followed this thread, but lost interest after all the banter. Just my opinion in the hopes that no authors get overlooked due to all the noise. |

When a writer first starts out their voice is untrained, but very often carries a certain passion that shifts over the years. I'd like to offer my first collection, and my first novel as examples ...
THIS IS MY BLOOD : On Easter Half-off at Smashwords Coupon HR53F until 5 April. Also Available at Macabre Ink Digital Half off - Coupon = 3@ster2 ![]() This e-book is available in .pdf, Kindle, epub and Mobi formats. Mobi format, can be read using the free MOBIPOCKET READER for the PC, or on KINDLE, or the free KINDLE FOR PC or the free IPHONE KINDLE APP . First published in 1999, This is My Blood is David Niall Wilson’s first and most important novel. It is a retelling of the gospel from a very different perspective. When jesus goes into the desert and is tempted by the devil, there is one temptation added. One of the fallen is raised as a woman to tempt him with the flesh. Instead, the woman, named Mary, falls in love with Jesus and his promise of returning her to Heaven. Cursed to follow him and drink the blood of his followers, Mary walks a fine line between her desire to love and support the Christ, and her burning need to return to Heaven. This novel takes the world of faith, which was the world of men, and of the apostles, and shows it through the eyes of a fallen angel – one who has, in her own words, walked the roads of both Heaven, and Hell. She doesn’t believe there is a God…she knows. Faithful to the storyline of the original gospels, only weaving in new things when there are gaps in the old, this is a novel of faith, redemption, and ultimate sacrifice. THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF ESCHER & OTHER ILLUSIONS ![]() Available at SMASHWORDS & MACABREINK DIGITAL This is the first ever fiction collection by author David Niall Wilson. It was originally published as a signed, limited edition trade paperback in 1995. This book includes many early stories that have never been reprinted, and two – notably “On the Third Day,” and “A Candle Lit in Sunlight” that were later expanded to full-length novels. The cover is by the late and sorely missed Augie Wiedeman and the interior illustrations are by Michael Grilla.

This collection includes vampires, magic, Lovecraftian horror, and religious fable. The introduction is by the late grandmaster of horror and fantasy, Hugh B. Cave. All of the stories in this collection can be ordered individually on the site – or you can get the collection with original illustrations here. The contents include: The Fall of the House of Escher A Candle Lit in Sunlight Miracles in the Night On the Third Day Yours, the Vengeance On the Road to Damascus Sparkling Eyes |
