My first childrens book about a young girl who goes to a Library and sees a Viking stacking book shelves however nobody else seems to.

Sometimes we wish we could stop the clock and rewind time. Maybe to savor a happy moment, take back words spoken in haste, or fulfill an ambition. Other times we want to turn the clock ahead, hopeful of better times or fortunes. Midnight and Holding is a collection of stories reflecting those desires. A mix of humor, pathos, and serious observations in approximately 12,000 words.

Rubies and Other Gems – A woman’s trip back in time puts her present problems in perspective. (This is the short that inspired my novel of the same name.)

The Shed – A newly erected garden shed is the catalyst that reconnects a driven executive with his neglected wife and children.

Harvey’s New Suit – A woman buys her husband his first new suit in years.

Rainbow Years – A carefree youth calls to mind a woman’s own dreams and desires.

Mad Dogs and Fishermen – A humorous account of an innocent suggestion taken to extreme.

Midnight and Holding – A parent’s rite of passage.

Tomorrow Blossoms

When Kate’s husband, Ward, locates the son she put up for adoption as an unwed teen, she’s understandably wary. What if he looks like his father instead of Ward?

The boy, now a man, is also wary. Who are these people who suddenly want him to be a part of their lives? Where were they when he was growing up, when he needed to feel a part of something bigger? After meeting each other, everyone’s fears dissipate.

Then Ward passes away unexpectedly. Although devastated, Kate is thankful he never knew the truth. Facing the rest of her life alone, she returns to work in the company he founded. She’s still coming to grips with life as a single when she learns her son was adopted into the family of Jesse, the boy who turned her away as a pregnant teen.

“Having bought this book on the strength of reading Serendipity House I expected it to be a good read. I was not disappointed. It was that and more. Lovely read. I shall be happy to read all other books by this author.”

Excerpt, From the Ashes
~*~
I was ready to dig into a second helping of beautiful fried eggs. Out on the street was a ruckus. I turned my head to see what it was. From right outside the door we heard a little boys’ voice, “Mr. Simpson! Mr. Simpson!”
We stood and one of our local youngsters, Billy, who knows everything, blasted through the door.
Winded, he yelled out again, “Mr. Simpson!”
Jim tried calming him down and asked, “What’s the commotion about?”
In his excitement all he could yell out was, “Johnny… aaaat ttttthhhe saaaaaalllloooon.”
Out the door we went. The Saloon Johnny normally attended was three doors down. Jim got through the door before me, all I heard was, “SON, NO, DON’T!”
Through the door I stopped, and not more than two feet in front of us, we witnessed Johnny enraged and grabbing at his six-shooter. Jim’s call out was enough to get Johnny’s attention and the gun slipped back into his holster.
Standing at the bar, the obvious target of Johnny’s rage, was a drifter. I say obvious because when an opportunity of a gunfight presents itself, those individuals who are not involved tend to maneuver in such a way to provide a clear path for those who are involved.
Now, I had written many accounts of shooters on the frontier, also witnessed a few first hand, I was sure this individual was a shooter. Calm, left hand on the bar, his right hand placed the beer he had just sipped, back on the counter. It was obvious Johnny intended to draw on him and shoot him in the back.
