Eric Arvin's latest short, Man Falls Down, has just been reviewed by Brief Encounters:

Review of AND JACKI, OF COURSE at Alexia's Books and Such
A great review of Amy Gerstin Coombs' latest short:
"Short stories are not easy to write. Without the luxury of a full length novel to establish a backstory and build characters, the author has to present well-rounded characters and a believable plot within a limited framework. They're not easy to write, which is why I'm so impressed with how good this story is!" Check out the full review: http://alexia561.blogspot.com/2011/0...of-course.html Quote:

Where Dreams are Born, a digital or print book from a small publisher.
After enduring traumatic childhoods, a single mom and a widower struggle to create a stable family life for their children despite those who would do them harm. Wendy Hines, a Vine reviewer from Minding Spot says, "Where Dreams Are Born is a captivating, heart-wrenching story of love, loss and hope. The characters are realistic, the plot tight and compelling. A winning story of coming to terms that loving someone requires a leap of faith sometimes and that dreams can come true, even from the least expected places. A stellar read!" First two chapters as well as other non-Amazon reviews on joycedebacco.com. Visitors welcome. |

New Autobiography From Mystery Author Dorien Grey: SHORT CIRCUITS
![]() About Short Circuits: A Life in Blogs: Book 1: Lambda-nominated author Dorien Grey (The Dick Hardesty Mysteries, The Elliott Smith Mysteries) knows more than just how to write a great murder novel. He's also had amazing life experiences in the military and around the world. Here, for the first time, are the collected blog and journal writings of this prolific author. As Grey notes, "Sometimes things are more clearly seen through the eyes of others." The hope is that the reader will see similarities to his/her own life, and recognize the commonality of the human condition. About Author Dorien Grey: When Roger Margason, a lifelong book and magazine editor, decided to try his hand at writing mystery novels with a gay detective, he chose the pen name "Dorien Grey" for a specific reason he is more than happy to explain should anyone care to ask. That he thought he needed a pen name at all was based on the reality of living in a remote and time-warped area of the upper mid-west where gays generally still feel it necessary to keep a very low profile--a sad commentary on our society--but one based on harsh reality. His first book featured a gay detective named Dick Hardesty, and was intended as a tongue-in-cheek version of the classic, hard-boiled heterosexual detective genre. It was written largely with a gay audience in mind. But as the first book led to the second and then the third, and as his readership grew to include mainstream mystery fans, Dorien slowly became much more than a pseudonym, evolving into an alter ego. "It's reached the point," Roger says, "where all I have to do is sit down at the computer and let Dorien tell the story." It's not that Roger has had an uninteresting life. Two years into college, he left to join the Naval Aviation Cadet program: washing out of the program, he spent the rest of his brief military career on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. The journal he kept of his time in the military, in the form of letters home, honed his writing skills and provided him with a wealth of experiences to draw from in his future writing. Returning to college after service, he graduated with a B.A. in English from Northern Illinois Unversity, and embarked on a series of jobs which worked him into the editing field. While working for a Los Angeles publishing house, he was instrumental in establishing a division exclusively for the publication of gay paperbacks and magazines, of which he became editor. He moved on to edit a leading L.A. based international gay men's magazine. Tiring of earthquakes, brush fires, mudslides, and riots, he returned to the midwest, where Dorien emerged, full-blown, like Venus from the sea. How to Purchase Short Circuits: A Life in Blogs: Book 1: Short Circuits is available for $4.99 from The Untreed Reads Store (click the link at the beginning of this sentence)in a variety of formats, including EPUB and Kindle formats. Rubies and Other Gems - the Novel, Women's fiction with a time-travel twist.
Seeking relief from her unhappy family life, a woman travels back in time only to discover she may have put her future happiness at risk. Judith of The Book Binge says, "I would recommend this novel as one of those books that moves the reader through the days, months, and years of living, that open the reader's awareness to circumstances that, in this case, may be just a bit unique--how many of us get to be time travelers?...So be sure to read this novel--it will be well-worth your time. I know it held my interest from start to finish.” First two chapters as well as other reviews on joycedebacco.com. Visitors welcome. |

New Fantasy Release--Rian of the Elves: Welcome to the Spire
I just illustrated and published my first book on Amazon Kindle and Nook entitled Rian of the Elves: Welcome to the Spire.
Here is a description of the book: What if the person you loved more than anyone found it too hard to share their darkest secret? Samuel Mangus quickly discovers that his dad has had a pretty good reason to keep his hidden. A powerful Elf, Aubrey Mangus chose to leave his homeland long ago, taking nothing along besides his most prized possession—a mortal son. For fourteen years, Sam’s life couldn’t have been more pleasingly plain. Yet, the last day of school was anything but that. His teacher sends a gift home to his handsome father, while he’s just had a conversation with a talking bird named Justus Sneeble. Worse than that, the Sneeble claims he’s come to warn him of something. Sam hopes he’s imagined the meeting, but once home is greeted by an evil creature called Recene. What happens next is too much to believe. In Rian of the Elves, Sam meets new friends, each of them a different breed, each born with extraordinary gifts of their own. The Guild they form will be unprecedented and each has the honest intention of helping him succeed. Their Spire is the most magical place he’s ever been. So why is it that no one can tell him what lies beyond the plain, wooden door atop the Anteroom’s stairs? Oddly enough, Sam finds it more mesmerizing than anything else there. In the end, the answer is nearly heartbreaking and Sam must face the ultimate test of bravery and goodness on his own. And here are the links: http://www.amazon.com/Rian-Elves-Wel.../dp/B005GKY8HU http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/rian...%2bthe%2belves Thanks so much to everyone for taking the time to look it over. I really do appreciate it. Erin |

When time is short, please consider my new short story collection. Sometimes we wish we could stop the clock and rewind time. Maybe to savor a happy moment, take back words spoken in haste, or fulfill an ambition. Other times we want to turn the clock ahead, hopeful of better times or fortunes. Midnight and Holding is a collection of stories reflecting those desires. Total words: approximately 12,000.
Rubies and Other Gems – A woman’s trip back in time puts her present problems in perspective. (Not to be confused with my novel of the same name.) The Shed – A newly erected garden shed is the catalyst that reconnects a driven executive with his neglected wife and children. Harvey’s New Suit – A woman buys her husband his first new suit in years. Rainbow Years – A carefree youth calls to mind a woman’s own dreams and desires. Mad Dogs and Fishermen – A humorous account of an innocent suggestion taken to extreme. Midnight and Holding – A parent’s rite of passage. Thanks, and have a good read. Joyce |
