Why not just turn it off? (type ;un again - it is an on/off toggle).

Ahh yes! Actually that was my first guess so I did that, but it did not affect my issue. This tempted me to try again and then restart. That did the trick! Thanks!

As an update, I was able to go around the dreaded Waterstones ribbon screensaver. PHEW! Took me 2 full evenings! Thanks for all the assistance! I found info on the KUAL stuff around page 42-3. I had read the first 30 pages of this thread and then the last 10. That's what I get for skipping around! I just get greyscale covers of all the books I've read on my kindle so far and add them to screensavers folder. Much much much appreciation for everything you do! <33

Well, I suppose we could edit this thread a bit -
Do away with the 77 pages of information on other people's troubles and just enter a few pages of:
"User error" replies.
But that would only make sense if people where paying for support.

@EvanEdinger: It's written in a "if it's not mentioned, it means it's supported" frame of mind, which is why you see a big fat warning for Special Offers, and nothing about Waterstones .

I have a weird situation. I have a Kindle Paperwhite, firmware 5.4.4.2.
The 5.4.4.2 update disabled my custom screensaver.
I reinstalled the most current Jailbreak (successfully).
I tried reinstalling the most current screensaver hack, but got the grayed-out "Update Your Kindle" on the Settings menu.

I have been trying to troubleshoot, following NiLuJe's advice in Post #1097:

* If you don't have one already, make a backup of your custom screensaver images.
* Delete the linkss folder from your Kindle.
* On the off-chance that something wonky's going on with your jailbreak version, reinstall the latest JailBreak.
* Restart your device.
* Run the latest uninstaller for the ScreenSavers hack.
* Run the latest installer for the ScreenSavers hack.
* And *STOP*. At no point should you try to inject your custom images (yet).

When I run the latest uninstaller for the ScreenSavers hack, I am able to update the kindle.

But then when I try to run the latest installer (next step), "Update Your Kindle" is grayed out. This is the point where I get stuck.

Any thoughts?

@ManyManyBooks: Although I doubt that's the root of the issue, it'll always help to give more accurate info, so start by confirming your exact device model w/ the WiKi page.

Next, make sure there are no .bin files (or pending OTA downloads) in the USB root of your Kindle, then restart your device, and then try again.

(To explain where I'm going with this: a greyed out "UYK" link usually means that you have the wrong .bin file for your device model. Unfortunately, on FW 5.x, the OTA updater is known to sometimes randomly fall on its ass and fail, or do stupid things, hence the reboot).

The device is the PW2 (WiFi). Have tried with the reboot - still have a grey UYK. No .bin files or pending OTA downloads.

The .bin file I am trying to put in the root folder is:
Update_linkss_0.17.N_install_pw2.bin

Do I have the wrong file?

I haven't heard of the PW being referred to as an EY21 in over a year and a half... I suspect that is a PW1.

It must be, then. The device doesn't have a serial number printed on it, so it is hard to be certain.

Go to the menu, then settings, then press the menu again, then device info...you will see the serial number.
