No need, they both failed with the same message: "Australian KT2 not recognized" Now it is up to NiLuJe to re-run the snapshot script with B0DD / 90DD models added. Last edited by knc1; 08-28-2016 at 05:20 PM. |

Yup, I'm stupid. I was using the single-device "kt2" flag instead of the "basic" alias in my build scripts, hence the missing ID... The uninstallers are using the global "kindle5" alias, which explains why those run... Will fix, sorry about that :/. EDIT: Snapshots updated. Last edited by NiLuJe; 08-28-2016 at 05:58 PM. |

Some parts of the file tree are not affected by the mntroot script because they are not on the same backing store. Some parts of the file tree are not affected by the mntroot script because their file type does not support write operations. And in general, you should never need to change the permissions of a file in the Amazon system image. As shipped and installed on your Kindle, it is a working system. So back up and tell us the context. Include what it is you want to accomplish as your overall goal. Also the where, what, and why of the xxx.xxx you want to change.

I want to let it become readonly, so that Kindle will not update to new version.

Plus, changing the permissions of a file does not block 'root' from changing or removing it. Put an empty, hidden file inside the new directory if you wish. But that is more likely to be forgotten by you than to inconvenience the OS. mntroot script does not effect the /mnt/us part of the file tree, that is on a different backing store (partition 4). The rw/ro status of the root file system does not propagate to other backing stores.

One other point we both overlooked - The user's USB storage area (known as /mnt/us internally) is FAT-32. Which does not support *nix permissions. |
