I could do everything up to step 7 of the jailbreak, and then got an application error. Rebooted the reader and then did step 8 as described. Everything is fine so far.

[But now I can't find the "Help & User Guides".] Found it after entering ";dsts"...

But after choosing "Get Started" I get an Application Error. Rebooting doesn't help, which leads me to the thought that I might have to update the firmware to 5.14.2 first.

Is that correct, and where can I find it?

Hi,

while jailbreaking my KV, the device obviously got unregistred (at the factory reset stage); furthermore, I also went on Amazon website for manually unregistering my device on the store.

I plan to never registering the device again.

Can I safely enable a WIFI network again (for sideloading books) with no fear of some firmware update removing the jailbreak+koreader?

I had old firmware version 5.10.3, so had to download and update firmware first. I was able to find 5.13.7 from mirror website.

Okay. I give up. Please advise me how to exit the demo mode and back to the normal mode. When I hard reboot the kindle, my kindle reboot back at the "Misconfigure Screen" in the demo mode. Thank you.

To exit the demo, I used the ;exit_demo command in the search bar, then turned on the drive mode with the ;uzb command, created an empty file in the device root with the name DO_FACTORY_RESTORE and rebooted the device..https://4pda.to/forum/dl/post/25483726 /DO_FACTORY_RESTORE.zip

I skipped steps 2-8 in setup. I tried to enter demo mode but I failed. I also didn't see the alternative demo mode entry, so I just sideloaded the jailbreak without following steps 2-8.

What should I do now? Is the jailbreak not completed? Did I do anything harmful to my kindle?

When I was running 5.14.2, I received the new UI overhaul (which .3 seems to now apply by default). Upon resetting/jailbreaking the device, I was reverted to the older UI/home page. Will the new UI be available on this now jailbroken PW5, since it doesn't seem to be tied to the FW version itself? I have applied renametobin, and I'm still kinda hoping that I get the new home page/UI. Many thanks again!

The new UI seems to be tied to your Amazon account, so you should get it when you reregister your Kindle.

I did mine from 5.14.2 as well, and shortly after setting the jailbreak and renametobin, my kindle automatically updated to the new layout. I also prefer it - I think we are in the minority.

Either that means I didn’t apply renametobin properly, or this is what is supposed to happen with this jailbreak when you’re on the most recent firmware possible for jb.
