The oldest firmware that supports your Kindle hardware (PW5) is that 5.14.0.1 the device came with. You can't and shouldn't try installing an older firmware that doesn't support your device. Don't just assume and do things without first collecting enough information!
You were already lucky that you've been able to recover your PW5 after trying the jailbreak procedure on unsupported & untested firmware version. You probably won't be so lucky if you continue doing stuff to your PW5. And that model is the worst possible Kindle model to debrick.

What is possible and what you can and should do instead is doing that mentioned edit to revert firmware 5.14.1.1 to old UI that older devices had with firmware 5.13.6 and PW5 for whatever reason still had with its factory firmware 5.14.0.1.

I didn't really go too far with the JB for 5.14.0.1, it gave me an application error during the demo and then I bailed and factory reset it.

Amazon's website says 5.13.7 was supported by PW5.

I do have the old old UI now, which is very cool. Don't have to downgrade.

That bin file is for PW5, I updated my kindle with it.

Whelp...

Followed the guide, finished without any issues. Tried to install KUAL using MRPI, process finished, after reboot, KUAL wasn't present.

Rebooted my KOA3, the bastard now updated to 5.14.3.0.1 somehow, even though the device never connected to WiFi... and the jailbreak is gone.

Fingers crossed there's gonna be another 0-day in 5.14.3+ firmware.

Yes. You just need to do a factory reset and then reinstall the firmware in that order. This will completely remove the jailbreak.

If anything, this is precisely why you should follow this tutorial. If you follow the instructions, you wouldn't have any issues.

If you read the instructions, it tells you that you need to do the secret gesture at this step. There are even helpful little pictures on the OG post to help you out. Just tap with 2 fingers as shown on the image, then swipe left. Pretty simple stuff if you follow along closely.

my kindle wasnt restarting when i clicked "get started" and it was because I wasn't in Great Britain mode I chose united states instead.

To fix this i changed the manifest to add "en_US" as well.

not sure if anyone else did this or if this was also their issue but I just thought it might help someone else.

Hello, I jailbroke my KOA2 with 5.14.2 successfully. I wanted to use MailPush plugin and left wifi on, and of course it updated to 5.14.3.0.1 The strange thing is that since the update I have no option to display cover. I'm not special offers (Canadian).

What's the best next step? Can I keep my jailbreak if I reset the Kindle to factory defaults? Thank you in advance

Update:
Reinstalled Jailbreak files - no change (tried adding custom covers too, no change)
Factory reset - no change
Contacted Amazon - they suggested restarting, then factory resetting - no change.

Update 2: Amazon support person says they removed the display cover functionality in the latest update. I'm dubious of this claim but who knows.

Doing a reset will wipe out your jailbreak.

If you followed all the jailbreak steps you should be able to restore KUAL. Then you can use the extension in the thread below to downgrade your firmware. After that, you need to reinstall KUAL and anything else you want.

That link is just incorrect.

PW5 is the only Kindle that has "5.14.1.1" (all the rest have 5.14.1), and that "update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_v2" is NOT used for PW5 (it is for PW4). For PW5 Lab126 uses "update_kindle_all_new_paperwhite_11th".

The correct link for PW5's 5.14.1.1 firmware bin is this:

The incorrect link you've quoted asks the download server for a PW4 and firmware build 5.14.1.1 that doesn't exist. Remove the extra ".1" at the end of the build number in that incorrect link and the link will be valid but it will download the thing you asked and the thing that actually exists for that particular Kindle model.

Thank you, reinstalled the hotfix + kual, and successfully downgraded using the above method. Is there a working OTA update prevention method? I used the one built into KUAL but it didn't prevent the firmware update. I can confirm that the jailbreak does persist into 5.14.3.0.1 (if installed on an earlier firmware first).

Downgrading to 5.14.2 did restore my "display cover" functionality.

I'm not familiar with the built in KUAL update prevention, but maybe it depends on the blocker directory, which doesn't work for several recent major versions.

There is an optional update blocker extension that works by renaming the OTA update progam files. That should still work.
