Vojislav has now released a "Week 1"-review where he tries to answer questions from viewers of his first two review videos.

Among other things he demos the IP over USB feature, but it is buggy.

You will be able to enjoy your reMarkable even in the post-Apocalyptic world. A comforting thought.

For the extremely security conscious I guess a physical connection might feel more comforting than wifi as well.
Everybody else uses MTP for file transfers between devices over USB. That's what MTP is designed to do. IP over USB is a strange choice and I fail to see any benefits.

Wow!! Impressive review. Thanks for sharing. Haven't watched his earlier reviews, but this is very detailed and informative. Hope that the developers of the device have watched this and taken note of the issues that he has raised.

This device clearly has amazing potential. However, until they get those software issues worked out, my money will be staying in my pocket. Perhaps until they get a second generation model with improved hardware and improved software. Real potential there. Hope they can turn enough of a profit to develop it further.

Yeah I don't get it. You lose a lot of people with "find IP address of your device" and "input IP address into browser".

IP over USB enables much more than file transfer.

Nothing that you couldn't do over its wifi connection.

I received it a couple of days ago and I am quite happy with it. Hardware-wise I have only a few negative remarks - the screen is quite dark compared to an ordinary e-ink Carta screen (but it's still perfectly OK). When writing I inadvertently pressed the right button a couple of times, which sent me to the next page - perhaps it can be still repaired in software, by disabling the button when the pen is close to the screen. And that's about all - I worried that the processor and ram are too weak, but no problem here. The battery drains *really* fast, but I still hope that it's a purely software issue.

The software is another thing, but it's quite usable already now. The (manual) crop function for reading pdfs works well, so the screen size is OK.

In Vojislav's review, he explains that the Remarkable has trouble connecting to his own home Wifi (and not to other Wifi's; there's probably something specific on the network's configuration), and he says this might explain some battery draining (if, say, the device keeps trying to reconnect). Do you have any Wifi problems? Does drainage also happen if you turn wifi off?

Very good news about the cropping. Thanks!

I didn't notice any wifi problems, and the battery drains even with wifi off.

BTW one thing I forgot to write about the hardware: the pen is not just without any noticeable lag, it is also wonderfully precise; only very close to the edge of the screen it is a little bit off. On the other hand, as the other end of the pen doesn't work as an eraser, one needs the tool menu displayed on the screen for writing, and that menu takes way too much of the screen - but that can certainly be solved in software, by giving an option of smaller menu buttons.

I've just pre-order the remarkable, it will be arrive at the end of november (hope so). Into the Vojislav's review he said that there is a problem with notes and highlights of pdf: the higlights and notes, once open the pdf file on mac (or pc) are not into exactaly place compared to notes and highlight into the pdf on remarkable. Please psv may you tell me if it occurs also to you? I buy remarkable only for this.....

I tried to test it a bit, and I'm getting problems (but not always) when I crop the pdf (which I basically always do, as the screen is not large enough for reading most of pdfs without cropping) - highlighting can strangely move the highlighted text. Seems that they still need to work on this part of the software (and on many others).

edit here is what I meant (a picture of the screen of the reMarkable, sorry for horrible quality)

Ouch! That's one ugly bug, but most likely reasonably easy to correct - I bet the displacement is related to the cropping.

From Vojislav's review, I understand you have access to some form of bug reporting; make sure the Remarkable developpers are fully aware of this bug

Interesting for geeks

The reMarkable tech guys have ported fingerterm to work on the device, so soon you can have a functioning terminal emulator on your reMarkable.
