I've used IP over USB on windows and Linux to gadgets that needed hacked first. Simpler on Linux than XP. But it does pick up the time and date in about a day. The Kindle Keyboard 3 which can render KF8 with last FW has the same problem with time and date. Stupid no GUI option. Actually even my phones have always taken ages to find time/date via mobile, or even never! So I normally set them manually. The most recent one can set via GPS but then the time zone is wrong, so have to switch to manual and fix the hour. |

The USBnetwork KUAL menu includes a ** USBnetwork ** status button, which when selected, will print a line of small text at the bottom of the screen stating whether USBnetwork is enabled and whether sshd is up. |

In case anyone ever winds up here, instructions for fake registering a DX(G) running 2.5.8 are in this thread.
However: those don't work on a K3 running 3.4.2. If anyone has instructions for those (instructions/source code preferable to binary files) I'd be grateful. |

A K3 can be actually registered. The problem with DX family is that they have Mobile/cell only and may have no connection. A fake reg. is pointless on a K3.

It's not pointless these days: to create an account you have to give Amazon an email address (only certain providers are accepted) and a mobile number for 2fA.
I would prefer not to... ![]() Is there a way? |

Also, we don't want to hand out fake registrations for a Kindle because the Kindle in question could be blacklisted (maybe stolen). |

You do not need 2FA.
The advantage of a K3 to PW1 models is that if a book is bought from Amazon the delivery by WiFi is in azw3 (if available), never KFX. |

For Pete's sake. We're talking about K3s. 15-year-old devices. For the record, mine's been working "properly", unregistered -and- unstolen, for over a decade, leaving aside a while where I thought the battery had finally died.
Anyway, the reason I asked about it originally was that I thought it might be necessary because of the sudden KUAL issue that people including me have been experiencing. I was trying various things to troubleshoot and thought registration might be part of the issue since my DXG has not had that issue and I'd had to fake register it - using instructions here on mobileread! - as part of the jailbreaking process, while I hadn't needed to do that for the K3. Seemed worth trying. It looks like the KUAL/MKK problem is actually about certificates rather than registration so it's not an urgent question anymore. But I still would be interested to know how to do it. |

Unfortunately you do need 2FA these days. You didn't in the past, but Amazon does not make it possible to create and/or register an account without it anymore. I have tried.
I don't buy books from Amazon and never have, so I don't actually care about registration aside from cases where it's helpful or necessary for the jailbreak and other hacks to work. TBH I'd be grateful for technical instructions should they exist, not a debate about whether it's worth bothering or being curious ![]() |
