I picked the home storage thing because this ended up being the final reason to go digital - with geographic restrictions being the main reason I held out as long as I did.
However, I'm seeing quite a few other benefits now that I'm here. Regards Caleb |

About 75% applies to me. I have not lost the feeling of wonder I got when starting to read my first ebook on my Sony PRS-300.

I've ticked several, but the main reason which desided me on buying an ereader was home storage space closely followed by portability.

Portability (being able to take a 100 books on a trip instead of just a few or getting rid of the weight)
I like to travel light. Especially when going skiing (we usually go by train) or biking (obvious reasons...). And on holidays I can devourer books... Gadget love (you love gadgets and buy any new gadgets that come to market regardless of usefullness) This was the reason I bought my Promedia, BeBook Mini, JE100 and Sony 650... Actually, it was part of the reason I bought all my readers, but the older ones (my Ebookman and PDA's) I bought mostly for the above stated reason. You were already reading books on your computer and this is easier to carry around and read in bed I started on my PC, then moved to the Franklin Ebookman and that was the beginning of the end ![]() Your e-reader is more comfortable to hold in your hands then books are You try to hold a hardcover for a few hours! Or try to hold open a MMP for a few hours! You love anything shiny, just like a crow The Sony 650 just looks awesome.... It's easier to read in the dark (because you have an LCD-based device or an e-paper based one with built-in lighting) I have one for all situations, including sun-light reading and lightless reading ![]() |

I have never read a book on a 'computer'. I started reading on a PDA. And then moved to a dedicated reader. It ain't the same thing.

2 things attracted me to ereaders portability and home storage.
I was pretty dubious about a reader replacing my favourite reads...... paperbacks! but once I purchased the PRS600 I fell in love with them and wouldnt go back to PBs especially now that I have upgraded to the 650. I just love it |

For me, it was "oh look, a nifty neato new gadget (!) that allows me to read books AND geek out with electronic stuff!"
Kewl! All the (10) other reasons I selected (carry books anywhere, easier access, easier to hold, etc) are beneficial side effects I discovered after purchase. Actually, my first thought at seeing an electronic book reader? Ooooooh, shiny!!! ![]() Last edited by Mickey330; 12-21-2010 at 09:25 AM. Reason: Argh! Spelling... |

These are my top 3 reasons!!
Your e-reader is more comfortable to hold in your hands then books are (I felt like I was fighting with a book whenever I read it....) You're exceptionally prone to papercuts (SO TRUE, my sony is my finger saver!!) You love anything shiny, just like a crow (well.... ![]() |

For me: the first 3 options, plus access to foreign books (although the option seems to say the opposite).
And another one that's missing: Being able to create my own books (with PG texts, scanned content, my own words...), with the formatting I like, and correcting what I don't like. |

You missed mine. My PDA (Dell X51, no V) was getting older and unreliable for reading. My current smartphone is uncomfortable for reading (small screen, slide-out keboard). I bought a jetBook, and then a Kindle as a better reading device than the smartphone. I was tempted to upgrade to a more modern PDA, buy a dumb phone, and dump the smartphone, but that's inconvenient.
