I was able to do it with Remote Ripple Pro so I saw no need to install bVNC, it is not like the Onyx comes with massive amounts of storage.
As for the higher resolutions I'm not sure how I could accomplish that. The maximum resolution is stated as the 1370x766. Are you suggesting editing the Registry? Then I'd need to know exactly where to go and how to change it. Not comfortable doing it on a whim. |

I am thinking about how it would be to run the vnc server from the Onyx Note it will be released in the next months, and due it has more dpi it makes me think maybe it needs more hardware processing. Ifit is this way I am afraid it will be almost imposible to run it in the Note, it has the same processor and ram.
About Teamviewer: I can run it on my C67ML but no in M96, and it is because only C67ML has OpenGL ES 2.0. I asked to someone who has the i86 and he said to me it hasn't it installed. In a thread here on mobileread ( https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...01#post3554601 ) I am talking about it and the quest to try installing it. |

Did you also try VNC on the C67ML? Could you try NoMachine NX? How is the experience, comparing VNC, NX, TV (and also possibly the "monitor" software from Onyx)?

It is pretty unfortunate that the MaxCarta does not have a OpenGL ES.
In fact, the i.MX6SoloLite is a pretty bare processor. For the price range, it would have been preferable to have it equipped with something better (EDIT: although, to understand the situation fairly, Booxtor wrote... «Concerning price. A couple of months ago [early 2016] the wholesale price of the screen (Mobius) alone was by USD650! We are working with minimal margins to keep project alive. What could we do more?»). We shall place hope on the Max II. Instead, the i.MX6Solo and the i.MX6DualLite with the "Integrated EPD controller" also offer "3D graphics" (see the i.MX6 comparison). So, we have to understand that the C67ML uses a i.MX6Solo, and that the forthcoming C67ML Carta will use the i.MX6DualLite (it will be dual core)? Last edited by mdp; 07-22-2017 at 05:25 PM. |

And as I said, the Teamviewer connecton give me a message of low memory available in the C67ML (512MB ram), but it works allways flawless. Do you think the more DPI will become in a more hardware need? About the OpenGL: probably you (or ereaderstorepleople) are right, butI dont think a I.mx6soloX (who has 3D GPU) instead of a I.mx6sololite could be much moreexpensive Last edited by eReader fan; 07-23-2017 at 11:17 PM. |

The customized bVNC I posted uses an insanely high compression setting, which kind of doubles CPU use. I did not realize that immediately. I would post another version in which the jpeg quality and compression settings can be changed by the user, but it is not a 30 mins job... It is interesting to know that TV works that well... Would you call it adequate for normal use (as monitor)? NX should be competitive. Do you have any annoying delay - latency between key/mouse and screen update? Does refresh look fluid (I should find or produce an example for this "fluidity" - I noticed that rhythmic animation may become jerky)? Quote:
A quick search seems to show that the i.MX6 SoloLite chip may cost around 20$, while the i.MX6 DualLite chip 30$... We may be lacking decision critical details - missing a second core and extra capabilities (GPU) for 10$ would be a bit shocking... : ) Last edited by mdp; 07-24-2017 at 09:49 PM. |

It is more or less expected now that E-Ink readers will be able to go weeks between charging. That is probably the biggest differentiator between e-readers and tablets to most people; not the lack of LCD lighting. As such, the systems are designed to use as little power as possible. Single CPU, low clock speed, aggressive sleep management,... that's what it takes to keep battery usage down. A system that uses high power and thus needs daily recharging is going to upset a lot of people.

is it possible to use the boox max (carta) as a monitor without wifi ? And are the letters on MS WORD too small or too exhausting to read for your eyes ? Im currently thinking of buying one and I write essays so that'd be important for my decision

There is a video showing an Onyx Boox Max Carta connected through USB to a laptop, but I believe it is running on a special firmware yet to be released. I run mine on WiFi and carry phone for tethering the two devices and it works surprisingly well. Took a lot of trials and error before I got it working but now it is very easy.

Apart from setting the styles, which is the correct method for pagination, several Office Automation software application have an option often named like "web view" that renders outside page formatting and uses a virtual page screen-wide, zoomable. |

And by the way, to write essays on an Onyx tablet, the same, Kingsoft (today WPS) Office and a BlueTooth keyboard /should (normally)/ be much more than enough. I wrote and edited many thousands of pages on a T68 ("Lynx" firmware). The caveat is, as expressed elsewhere other times, that some firmware+device combinations make Kingsoft very slow (and other products a sunken nail). I have not yet raised a complaint because I have not yet produced numbers to substantiate, although I did carry on an unfinished comparison (and because I am not yet again deep in intensive editing). Sooner or later I'll start a thread, write Onyx etc. But in theory, it can work amazingly, because it did.

Interesting, are these techniques effective and reliable ? I also want to browse through the internet without too much lag.
When it comes to writing essays/using ms word etc, I think as long as I will be able to zoom in like when using a browser, I'm content. Last edited by tracey1; 07-27-2017 at 01:49 PM. |

So, would say I should wait for a new Onyx device (with a possibly bigger screen and better software) or get this ?
