Hi. I am trying to use the cover mode on my PW4 FW v5.10.1.3. I installed the latest version of the Hack yesterday. I have kept opened 'The Hobbit' for quite some time, but when I put Kindle to sleep there is no cover as screensaver. There is just the message saying that the hack 'hasn't yet successfully processed a book cover'. I have checked Calibre and the cover of the book shows up there without any problem. Can you help with this?

Have you restarted your Kindle since installing the hack? There are background processes initiated at boot time that monitor for book changes and process the cover to use as a screensaver. Sometimes the background services stop and a restart is necessary as well. There are also some covers that break the system, hopefully this is not one of them.

Yes I have restarted Kindle after installing the hack. More than once actually.

Enable verbose mode (in the Hacks' KUAL menu) and see what happens a few dozen seconds after opening a book.
Double-check that date/time is sane on your device. If all else fails, check system logs. |

Hi. Firstly, thanks for replying.
I had already tried what you suggested. I found something weird. I observed three books in my collection: The Three-Body Problem, Digital Fortress and The Hobbit. When I open all the three in 'Edit metadata' window in Calibre, all of them show a book cover on the left side. Like this: https://i.imgur.com/hJRDfqW.png But when them in Kindle, only the first two show a thumbnail cover and only these two work with the Screensaver hack (not working with The Hobbit). See this: https://i.imgur.com/FxQHvUx.jpg Why is that so? Last edited by NiLuJe; 08-31-2020 at 08:20 PM. |

That has nothing to do with this thread? (Also, don't inline images that break forum layout, just attach them to the thread instead).

Sorry for breaking the layout. I didn't know! Also, unable to edit that post.
Anyway, it might be some issue with the ebook itself. Thanks anyway! |

hasn't yet successfully processed a book cover
Quote:
None of my covers are processed. In verbose mode I can see at boot up the message "starting cover watchdog" When I open a book I see "S W failed to process cover" So... I need to do something with the embedded covers ![]() I used the SS hack a couple of years ago on an older PW and I did nothing then, but maybe the process has changed. Have I forgotten a step?? Thanks! |

ok; knew I should have waited before posting. I remove python and reinstalled (probably properly this time).
All good. |

So I was dumb and didn't read the whole thread thorougly before starting and installed the wrong python version (3.x) and that's probably why it couldnt process the covers. Can both python versions be installed at the same time? The python archive provided seems to only have a binary for uninstalling python 2.x, not 3.x. Does it uninstall both? In any case when ran it returned some errors and I don't think it uninstalled anything.
Sorry if that's a common question, did some searching to no avail. |

Both versions can coexist just fine; and the uninstaller will, in fact, uninstall both.
"Some errors" doesn't tell me anything useful. |

Sorry, the question I had was more about the two python versions than anything, it was a mistake to talk about the error. Will investigate a bit further and bring the errors back later today.

Strange problem. I've loaded an image as a screensaver, following all the instructions. When Touch goes to sleep, my image is the screensaver, but there's also a ghost image of the last opened screen (the one right before putting it to sleep).
Apologies if this is in the thread somewhere, I have no idea what to search for. |

That's good old eInk ghosting because you're using an 8 years old device, nothing to worry about.
