Thanks Jeff - in that case I don't need them.
And once again, thanks for the useful application and for packaging it in such a way that even duffers like me can make use of it ![]() |

a brick...
After almost a year of wanting i fainaly disided to try and put unicod in my sony.
I did Sony Reader (PRS-505) V1.1 System Update and then tried to open an old pdf and the sony bricked ![]() (showed me the PDF as a jibrish and froze) I resterted it by the Recovering a brick 1. You're stuck at "Reader starting up..." 2. Use a a paperclip to press the reset button on the back of the Reader 3. Quickly slide the power toggle. 4. When the Reader reboots, immmediately connect it to your PC via usb cable. Do you know if I spouse to let it finish recovering after it rebout or to connect it to the usb as soon as it reboots? meantime i try to recharge it fully. May be the battery just run out? ![]() I rely love my sony ![]() |

Hi,
A german version of the 505 is on its way to me (I live in Denmark) Apparently I didn't do my homework, because I didn't think that changing the menu language would be a problem, and I would really prefer it to be in english. ![]() After reading the thread I understand that it should be possible to reflash the unit to use the US 1.1 firmware, even though I'm still a little unsure how. But hopefully that part will be clearer once I have the unit in front of me. But I'm a little nervous that nobody has confirmed that they successfully has reflashed their german 505 to use the US 1.1 firmware in order to use PRSCustomizer. Can anybody confirm that it has been done? Thanx alot. |

it can be done, there's no problem with it. I did it with english (UK) and french, friend of mine did it the same way with german. so don't worry
![]() but IMO the UK Version is the best, at least for us in Europe - the date format is "normal" and not the twisted mm/dd/yyyy ![]() |

![]() The date format is of course a drawback, but I'm better at deciphering that than the german language ![]() But now that you mention the UK version, do you know where it can be downloaded? I have searched for it without luck, and the links to rapidshare in the PRSCustomizer readme file doesn't seem to work anymore. |

Another one for WTF archive?
After reading this and other threads, I took a deep breath and tried to customise my unhacked UK 1.2 PRS-505. As a first try, I thought I'd leave all the options unchecked, just adding contact details, hopefully gaining the clock.
As with some other UK users, I got the "/tmp/self upgrade/new_optimg not found" (at least I'm pretty sure it was that file that was reported missing). At the end of the process. I ended up with a 505 which seems exactly as it was before I started, except that operating the power slider will not put the unit into standby, and although sleep mode is enabled, the unit does put itself to sleep. The power slide does work to turn on after I've gone all the way through the menus to turn the unit off, but still won't turn the thing off. OK, no complaints so far and I would be happy to try again. The thing is, whenever I put the SD card back in the reader, even reformatted and with the files copied back on to it, nothing happens. Sometimes (but not every time) I get a little synchronising logo for a few seconds... then nothing. I've been using PRSCustomizer 1.04, and have tried using Universal Flasher 2.1 for good measure, but neither has further any effect when I insert the SD card. I'd rather not lose 1.2 firmware if possible. Any ideas? Oh, and thanks for all the hard work you guys put into this. |

lets stick to prscustomizer
![]() i have 1.2 and have patched it, so it is possible. so: 1. if you turn off and an the reader (in the menu, not just standby with the slider on top), does it start the prscustomizer from the sd card? 2. when you customized the firmware, copied it to the sd, put it in to the reader and see the menu: which option do you choose? |

Thanks, Valwit.
1. No, neither prscustomizer nor universal flasher start on restart. 2. I just went #3 to backup, then #5 (which may have included a reboot, I wasn't really paying attention, then #6. |

That's right. It only worked the very first time I put a card in which wasn't a restart. It then gave me the options on the 3 occasions when I selected 3 then 5 then 6. After that card had no effect.
I think I may've also lost an hour, but not sure if it was on summertime before. |
