Which method? The 10-reset method doesn't work on PRS-600 (I assume you are talking about PRS-600?)

And what is going on with your reader? It keeps rebooting after you ran the "russification" package? Perhaps you should just let it run for a while (plug in the wall charger so the battery doesn't run out). If after a few hours of auto-resetting it doesn't stop, might as well send it back to Sony.

This solution does not work for me. My reader continues to hang at the screen "opening book" and have done the reset over 60 times. Please could you explain more precisely how you do it? How long you wait between a reset and the next? When the reader finally reacts, what screen out?

Thank you.

I was wondering if flashing the PRS-300 will give full justification in epub format books?

Could you at least change the font for LRF format books?

Hi,

I previously flashed my PRS-300 back in January time with, IIRC the first boroda flash file. I have noticed that there are now several versions of the firmware, and decided to upgrade to 1.05a. I now get the following error on flashing:

"Error while flashing partition! It is recommended to switch to recovery mode and use Sony flasher to flash a stock image".

Can anyone advise on how to switch to recovery mode, and where to find a stock image file. please?

Miracle!
The answer to the "Opening book + reboot" problem is to plug the reader to your USB using psp double cable and let it reboot zillion times while it's charging ;>

Hi dude!

I think u did a great job with this FW for Sony PRS 6OO!! Thanks a lot for all the hard work and the time u spent on that FW!! Would it be possible for u to come out with a FW that will enable me to read Arabic ebooks on my PRS 600?!

As far as adding a new language, it is not very simple. The languages and keyboards are "hardcoded" in the JS bytecode, and they are quite a pain to extend. I replaced Dutch with Russian - that was the easiest thing to do. You can replace German or French with Czech, if you wish to keep Russian. I think your Czech compatriots will appreciate if you replace Russian with Czech and keep the other three languages. Getting rid of the Russian menu will not preclude you from reading Russian books, of course.

You would have to unpack the FW image and do all the changes yourself. The Chinese and the Thai are already running with it, so you should be able to, if you want to.

As far as changing the default codepage for the non-unicode files, you can do it yourself (I provided the source code for the little DLL that modifies the default codepage to Win1251).

The fonts in my version already include East European character sets, so you shouldn't need to replace those. But you have to be very careful with loading new images into the PRS-600, especially if you don't have experience with making FW images for Sony Readers. The 10-reset method of forcing the Recovery mode doesn't work on PRS-600 (for some reason Sony didn't include it in their bootloader this time). The firmware supports some autorun, so you should test your images before flashing.

Here is how to do the autorun testing:

1) You need to install one of my firmwares

2) You need to copy the autorun files (test directory) into the Reader's main storage and reboot the Reader

3) The autorun should then be redirected to the /Data/test

4) If you insert one of the autorun cards (an SD card that has a Sony Reader/software/autorun.xml file on it, doesn't matter what's in this file) while holding the Vol+ and Home buttons, the Reader should execute autorun menu from the /Data/test directory.

5) The only option there that works is (+) - Load test firmware.

Best of luck to you!
I will try to follow Boroda’s method (1/20/2010) to install a Chinese font (replacing Droid font in the package) to my Sony PR900 with English interface for reading Chinese book. One thing I want to be sure before I do that: after flashing the firmware with the Russification firmware package version 1.05a, can I still keep the English interface (manual items) instead of Russian interface as shown in the screens example, which I could not read? Is there anyways to reverse to the original English firmware if something happens not the way I expect? Please help.

Yes, you can keep the English interface — as a matter of fact, I think the firmware leaves whatever your current language is selected for the interface intact.

Also, I believe boroda has the original extracted firmware stored somewhere so reverting should not be a problem.

Is there a limit in file size the reader can take?If anyone has successfully installed a Chinese font to the Sony reader, please let me know what font was used and any critical step I may have omitted. Epub viewer has it's own fonts (probably built into executable). But it was hacked. Check for the "epub" folder in the root of the internal memory and change the css files there accordingly.
