This is something for the publishers to consider unless you want to pre-process all the images in your ebooks. With most of the books I read, the only images are maps of some sort, and unless I bookmark them for future reference, they are mostly useless. For that reason I often just leave them out when converting the format for my personal reading.

Some printed books used to have a black & white drawing at the beginning of each chapter but it's been a long while since I've seen any like that. Some of the classics that HarryT works on may very well still have that though.
Well JPG images can only go as low as 256 colors grey scale and all images will look better, do to dithering, if they have more than 4 shades of gray but I agree the 4 bits (16 shades of gray) does a good job at display plus saving space in GIF and PNG files.

this is for the Basic reader, the pocket pro officially supports 16 GB but both support SDHC cards so are likely to work with cards that are higher capacity that the official recommendation. The official size takes into consideration the processing power and speed of display which tends to decrease on larger cards. However, the use of folders can really help with this so it is likely a user will be quite satisfied with a card size bigger than the ones officially supported. SDHC currently defines cards as big as 32 G.

I try very hard to treat people with respect and dignity. John, you seriously are painting yourself out to be someone very odd.

I am happy that you are here... but please show a little more concern.

Let me get this straight. It has a 400Mhz processor (and not any 400Mhz processor, but a Samsung 400 Mhz processor), an Epson Controller, and has a low, limited time introductory price of only $199. That's amazing.

I feel Bill Mays channeling.

Just curious, but I thought the Epson controller was for controlling the display? Is it more then just a display controller?

I see it like Video cards and CPUs. A faster VC takes more load off the CPU in many instances...it may very well help here, but I'm not certain.

So I mentioed that they both together may help.

Nah. I read it simply as humour said with a straight face. (without a smiley).

If you saw rixte's reply, he did it as well. I don't see any malice in anything that was written.

That's the difficulty with forums and the written word...it is very difficult to get a dry humour across without either a crap load of smileys, or without it coming off as though you're a prick.

(not calling anyone a prick, just stating in general) <--smiley

Very logical. Thanks.

Do these newer ereaders devices, in general, take advantage of higher speed SD cards?

Speed of SD cards is based on write speed. this is intended for digital cameras that need a high speed to record the image quickly so you can take another picture. EBook readers read the cards and seldom write anything to a card, thus the speed of the card is not a significant factor.
