True; I've had some excellent food there. (Vivid memories of Morro Bay come to mind.)

However, I don't think they use industrial tanker quantities of Yorkshire Dripping... And I've carefully forgotten about the batter.

Address suitably noted should I end up in San Diego.

Talking of pubs, does anyone know of a town or City that doesn't have an Irish pub?

Oh sure ... plenty of towns in Texas without a good pub. But ... as I recall, San Diego had three great pubs (one of the Irish) in the downtown area.

The Irish pub is an actual Irish Pub. I mean, they dismantled some pub over there and rebuilt it over here. Sort of like with London Bridge being stuck over Lake Havasu.

Which makes me wonder .... why do Americans seem to have this "thing" for trying to transport pre-colonial culture over here?? Or European culture ... and it seems like it's usually really poorly done. (I mean, does anyone actually feel like they are in Paris at that hotel in Las Vegas??)

There's probably a good reason ... maybe something about trying to connect with our ancestry. But ... if we really did that, most of us would have to experience pretty near every culture on the planet to really understand our own background. Or ... is it just that Irish Pubs are this decade's "in" place to be????

No. They're just one part of the manifestation of the Grand Plan. In which the Celts achieve their goal of world domination. Hence the bounty for finding any towns and cities currently omitted. Wait. I shouldn't have said that....

Ooooo .... well, my great great grandfather on my father's side was from Newton Forbes, Ireland. Does that mean I get some sort of Celtic credit when the Grand Plan is a success??? Because if so .... then, by all means, put a nice pub in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

PS: I think they call the place "Newtown Forbes" now ....

"Encouragingly, we did also find some evidence of the penetration of the Mediterranean diet into Scotland, albeit in the form of deep-fried pizza," said Petticrew, director of the social and public health services unit of the UK Medical Research Council

Oh yes we do. You see we've traced the leak to this site, installed the tap and have live monitorin---. Wait. I should not have said that.

Sparrow: for another take on Scottish cuisine have a look at an article from the sunday edition of the New York Times. (Oh, and Sparrow, if your name happens to be Shirley Spears and you live on Skye, I'll come up and have some of Michael's cooking as way of apology. Again.)

I think I got away with that -- they're all distracted aren't they?
