The just released firmware version 1.3 has major improvements over the earlier firmware versions.

We noticed most wireless problems are gone. WEP, WPA and WPA2 seem to work fine.
Some people experienced errors with their wireless after the update. We managed to solve most of these (actually have only one unsolved problem left) after some trial and error.

There are two threads on booxusers.com where we discuss this firmware,

Latest Official Firmware v1.3 20100308 (Onyx Website)

Firmware v1.3 Experiences and changes

Sincerely,

Open a support thread on booxusers and we'll help, we managed to help almost everyone with these problems after the update. Only one person still hasn't got working wireless with 1.3, all the others do...

I regret to post this question here in this topic, but there isn't a Boox subforum, so I wouldn't know a better place.
I've had the same about a week ago on BeBook Neo. Now, a few days ago, same has happened on iRex 800S.
In both cases, after about 4 days, the battery was dry. Without having had any activities on both readers.
I've started a thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76835
And I try to reproduce the failure: Battery duration in standby without any activity.
Did it happen to you only once or is it more or less the "standard" you experience?

This seems to be entirely normal; it's what everyone's reporting. Personally, I switch the machine off at the end of a reading session, unless I know I'm going to be coming back to it shortly. It boots sufficiently quickly that this really isn't an issue for me.

pietvo (from the above post) has different experiences on his 2 Neos (1 running dry after 3 to 4 days, the other doesn't). I'd be suprised, if 3 to 4 days in standby without any activity, per se would "kill" every Neo's battery. On most of my readers, I have about 2 weeks in standby. Why should Neo be any different?
And in my thread in the iRex 800 forum, most users consider the 3 to 4 days I've had on iRex 800 a fault. Most have 1 to 2 weeks.

Different readers do vary. The Sony PRS-600 will drain its battery in about 6 days in "standby" (or at least, mine does). If you look, though, at the reports on the forum at http://www.mybebook.com you'll see that 3-4 days is what people are reporting.

I leave all my readers in standby. My Sony 600 does about 10 days to 2 weeks in standby. That's about what I'd expect.

I am doing a controlled experiment now and it seems to be standard that the battery drains rather quickly in standby mode.

In another thread you wrote:

That's why I'm asking myself, whether it may be something about the touchscreens.
WACOM tablets, as far as I know, usually have a sensor, which starts the tablet, as soon as the stylus is taken out of the unit or approaches the screen.
(In BeBook Neo I had the stylus inserted, so this can't be an explanation there.) ...
We have two Onyx Booxen, one for my wife and one for me. I also thought that the Wacom screen would be shut off when the stylus is inserted, because that's what they say. I suspected some kind of microswitch at the tip of the hole. But I tried on my Boox with the stylus inserted and touched it with the other stylus. But the screen still worked, so it wasn't switched off. There could be some proximity sensor but that would also use battery. Maybe it's just an oversight in the software?

On your wife's Neo as well? Or just yours?

SD image for Boox novices: v1.3 2010.03.13

Hello,

Several people who just bought Boox 60 asked me to send them an "image" of SD card that has an exemplary structure of the folders and files including: games, apps, books, dictionaries, minimum necessary know-how instructions, the latest firmware update, sources for free e-books, and so on. I have created such SD image. You can download it from http://ifile.it/nuxbhl4 Feel free to improve it. The compressed zip file is about 165Mb. Enjoy.

I have been having the same problems with battery life - even with wifi off, it only lasts 5 days. I just upgraded to V1.3, so hopefully the battery will improve

I've had my Boox for a few weeks and here are my thoughts:

Good
Folder support
Can buy books where I want (except B&N of course)
Connected to my home wifi with no problem
Quick page turns
Sketch works very quickly

Would be nice to have
More choice of fonts – the difference between medium and large is quite a bit. I can’t read with medium, but large is too big.
The ability to use the sketch feature on all formats.

General stuff
I can't see any flash when I take the stylus in or out of the slot – I read this is how you tell if the wacom screen is on or off

Bad
PDF reflow doesn’t work properly on any of the 3 PDFs I tried – the last letter of a line is frequently left on the following line by itself, even just using medium font size. The Boox manual has this problem – look at the Preface page. I also found that underlined words do not display properly.

The lettering is not black – makes it difficult to see in even the medium font for me.

So far battery life is only a few days for me even with wifi off most of the time.

Sometimes locks up, and once when it came back the right hand side of the screen was filled with vertical lines.

When attaching to the PC via USB it asks if you want to connect to the PC – if you do, you can’t do anything else while it is connected.

That's exactly why it asks you, so you have the choice of being in "file transfer mode", where it mounts as a drive on your PC, but you can't use it, or simply to charge while you carry on reading.

How would you prefer that it worked?
