One thing to consider that I noticed with my OLPC is that the resolution of the screen increases by three when switched into reflective mode. The 1024x600 pixel resolution of a pixelqi type screen is effectively tripled when you put it into reflective mode as each color-sub pixel becomes an independent b/w pixel.
The OLPC screen diplays text beautifully in b/w mode though the contrast is poor and I gave up on reading on it. Be it notion ink or someone else, I wish someone would release a mass market pixelqi based tablet/reader as not everyone trusts themselves to butcher their netbooks. |

I find myself using a larger, bolder font on the OLPC in comparison to the font-size my wife uses on her Kindle 1, to help compensate for the lower contrast ratio.
A Pixel Qi Android tablet would be really nice, but I'd kill for a Pixel Qi Android phone! If any device demands a sunlight-readable display, it's a phone. Last edited by RoboRay; 12-15-2010 at 08:37 PM. |

It appears it was published December 13th. But you are right some of the content is old. Like the price is now between $375 and $550 in United States Dollars. And I was a bit surprised at him saying the prototype "does not have the right user interface." It makes me think this article was written a month ago after they first got their prototypes in.

I have been looking forward to this device, but:
- the PQI screen version has been sold out within a day or two, even for pre order (has the option to order a PQI screen ever been available?) - there are nog specs (other then the resolution) on the normal LCD version of the Adam So, should we pre order and wait for 2 months to recieve a device with an unknown LCD display? I have seen an Archos tabbloid device and an Itouch (compared to an Iphone), and the screens are not that great, so I say no. Just wait for the PQI version to show up in real life and have some real reviews before ordering one. |

It appears that Notion Ink has sold out of everything now. Or at least according to the homepage on www.notionink.com

Bless all those early adopters who are willing to pay money to field-test new products like this (and the original iPod/iPhone/iPad, etc). I don't like to buy anything without trying it out myself and seeing how it feels in my hands and so on. The one time I deviated from this I got the Witstech A81 which is a great device but came with many broken promises. My wife wants me to buy an Archos 70 or something similar right now so I can give her the A81. With iPhone Today on it it's pretty and more useful too.
The Adam looks great and will probably be a success but I'll wait until March or so before pulling the trigger on it. By then it might be in local stores with a reasonable return policy. Unless they've changed their policy you could be out 13% or so even if you get a DOA unit, something that will never fly with consumers. It's not my product until it's in my hands so if it's damaged in transit it's Notion Ink's property at that point and their burden not mine. Ah well. As for the Color Nook: I took mine back to Best Buy. It's quite a bit larger than the Archos 70, even bigger than my A81 and much heavier as well at almost 16 ounces. If I wanted something that heavy I'd just get an iPad and have millions of apps and a bigger screen. It also didn't even let me change font or background colors on most of my documents, many of which are admittedly home-brewed or re-formatted for the Nook Color. I hate trying to read a very bright screen at night, it's distracting to others and not easy on my eyes either. Side-loading apps on it was also very impossible though this was probably my fault as I hadn't tried Android much before this. Hoping the adam (lower case) succeeds so I can buy one next year. ![]() |

GOING BACK TO EREADER!!!!
Ciao everyone, Merry Christmas. Since we are interested in reading more than see a movie than other nice features. I am wondering how come there are not video about the inbuilt ereader so far. I really hope there will be several multilingual inbuilt dictionaries, or at least off line compatible(Because in the word there are tons of geeks like me that are obsessed by optimizing batteries), I hope as well that the notes will be organized in an efficient way giving the possility to organize all the highlighted/selected part in an organic and efficient way without going through all the books, in the end there are milion of people want a pdf antiglare ereader to study non fictional books, so in the study process the function above cannot be postponed. Can I ask a question? I would buy for sure the Notion Ink if I will be sure that I could install external apps, for instance I could never imagine to gave up without ezpdf reader, and I love as well Moon Reader, Laputa and others, since if my preferences are for Android is because is beating into my self a GNU Linux heart. Furthermore I need to use external apps as the Dutch Vandale and others. It will be possible to use externalapplications, since I had already bought licenses in Android Market? Just to be honest, I think I will buy also the new ipad if will be easy to see outside with Retina, It is an expensive but theyshould worth both |
