A 100LB brick is heavy. my pen weighs more than my pencil, that does not make my pen heavy. To you see what I mean?

For anybody reading this and was curious, it weighs slightly less than 1 lb. the equilvant of a 200 page hardcover. Now if reading a small hardcover book was never an issue in the past, it won't be with this.

I'm just trying to keep things in a little bit of a reality perspective.
Does not look like you are, of course, you own a Nook Color.

I am trying to compare the weight and how comfortable reading for long sessions is. There is no BS here, like you said. I've done that, my hands and wrist don't lie. The Nook Color is lighter than my fridge at home...so what? You establish how heavy or not a device is when you compare against a similar electronic device.

The purpose of an ereader is provide a comfortable and nice reading experience; weight and screen are two important factors boost or decrease that experience.

So please! Keep enjoying your NC but don't tell me is light!

I'm sorry if 15.8 oz's is heavy than maybe you should be seeing a Dr. this goes beyond milk and the gym.

Yes I do own a nook color and have had at it for since November a bit longer than a week to get a real feel for reading and playing on it.

I agree with you that yes the nook color is heavier than the kindle or even the nook classic.

can you answer this honestly? Did reading small hardcover books become an unbearable chore to you before you bought an ereader?
You can't make claims that reading on something is impossible now, since we have something that is lighter available.

I did most of my reading on hardcover in the past, and guess what, a lighter paperbook was usually an option as well. I didn't find the reading experience all of a sudden more glorified on a paperback because it was smaller and light in fact quite the opposite. I enjoyed the better contrast on hardcover, the large page.

I mean are you saying you never enjoyed reading and never had a good reading experience when you read a hardcover? Really?

Again Reality Check the nook color weighs 15.8 oz. a standard 400+ hardcover weighs over 2lbs.

Now if don't like using a tablet style ereader for you reading than that's cool. It's your eyes your money. But this may come as a bit of a shock to you but reading on an LCD screen does not affect everyone the way it affects you. And also 15.8oz, just really isn't all that heavy. Now it may be to you and you'll stikc with your Kindle, and that's all Kool and The Gang.

Your likes and your habits are just that YOUR likes and habits. I think you would find less of these side tracked threads if you posted more "IMHO's" or "I think" or " I personally prefer" etc. instead of passing off your opinons as facts.

just sayin.

Of course, I've read hard cover books and I do have a couple of them really, really heavy, over of 1 thousand pages! .

If I could use a Nook Color (which I can't, because there is no landscape for ePub, no option for enlarge images, no good selection of IT books on B&N, lol ... but let's no debate about those) it would be lighter than a regular pbook, you are right about that. But that's deviating the main point of the NC's weight. You can see and read tons of online reviews about different ereaders, not just Kindle or NC, any kind of tablet devices too, they always compare against similar device, not a pbook. C'mon! You know that ...

I hear ya bro.

but a side note you can enlarge PDF's image, if that was was you were referring to. Just not eBooks

it'll be interesting to see what enhancements come in the first major updates.

I knew you were gonna shoot with that comment! lol ...no, that is NOT what I was talking about. Currently, there is no landscape option for ePub. We do have such feature with Kindle 3 (with the Kindle electronic book and format I mean)

And to be honest with you? besides the weight and several Os bugs (probably will be fixed with oncoming firmware releases) I thought seriously about keeping it, as a second device, but with no landscape mode for ePub books or ability to enlarge embedded pictures, it's a "no, no". For instance, when reading poetry or technical books, you loss all the format, reading is horrible.

I recently did a web search for "knives," and I need some help choosing between two of the results.

Not if you read for hours. Actually, yesterday I was in a B&N store and the sales representative wanted to compare and see my Kindle 3. It was shocked about the weight.
It was shocked ?
What do you mean by "it" ??

I finally looked at a NookColor today in a BN store, and the first thing that I noticed was the weight. It's heavy; I didn't think weight would be a major factor, so I was surprised that I noticed it right away. I don't think you can compare it to a hardcover book, because the balance is different.

In use, 3-4 weeks on a K2 with wifi off will work very nicely for me. Not having to recharges every 8 hours or 3-4 days is a big deal for me.

We all chose the reader we have for specific reasons, I am happy with my purchase.
Really, you cannot have a K2 WiFi. It is impossible for me to take your reviews seriously when you don't even know what device you own.

For people who have wrist and hand problems the extra weight is very problematic. Also someone who has had a stroke or some type of partial paralysis could find those few extra ounces too much to handle.

Turning pages is also way much faster and again, just sliding your finger on the screen. It was odd though, that for changing PDF pages you can only do that sliding "up" or "down" not "left" or "right", like in a book.

Well, now, ugh... You almost sold me that tablet, jocampo.

I am eInk biased for prolonged (and sequential) reading, but this puppy is quite different. Sounds like an ideal gadget to take to work...

I played with the Nook Color yesterday at B&N. It felt surprisingly small and light. In fact, magazine pages were tiny in landscape mode. The rep and I couldn't get the dictionary to work within a magazine article. The rep said we could purchase it and have until the end of January to bring it back. So I predict lots of refurbed units on the market come February.

The reps should really know this stuff. Especially since they are B&N NOOK reps. The B&Ns I have been to have people that go for "training", what are they teaching them? I am not saying they are all like this, but really they should know at least where the dictionary support works and doesn't work. Somebody here at MR should apply for the job.
