![]() Up to then, I'd paid little attention to netbooks, thinking they were crap machines marketed to parents for their kids and first-time computer buyers who don't know what they're looking at, but considering my needs I thought, "I need something lightweight with basic hardware and an internet connection...Hey! That's a netbook." It's very handy having not only a web device but also a mobile command post for all my other gadgets and applications, and one that I'll actually have with me because it doesn't weigh a ton. |

Honestly, you don't need it. Of course it doesn't hurt and it's great that they make it easy, but I'm still on factory specs with my Wind, and Firefox and my reading apps are zippy as hell. GIMP (open-source Photoshop) chugs a little, but considerably less than I'd expect.

My old laptop crapped out on me so I bought an Acer Aspire One 10.1 Netbook as a replacement. It is cute, but in retrospect I probably should have spent an extra $200 and bought a 17" laptop. The 10.1" screen is certainly useable, but I think I prefer the bigger screen that doesn't require any squinting. The long battery life with a bright screen is definately a plus (I'm flying to California next week and this feature will come in very handy), but most of the time I use my laptop plugged into an outlet, so battery life usually isn't a big deal for me.

![]() I don't know if it plays as nice with OSX as the Wind, but plenty of people on the Wind forum triple-boot Windows/Linux/OSX (various flavors of all three). |

I have an Acer Aspire One AOD 250 that I got at Wal-Mart for $312. The first thing I did was loaded Windows 7 on it, and I’d like to report that it runs beautifully.
This morning I began restoring the factory configuration in preparation for returning it to Wal-Mart. It’s not that I don’t like it, I do but there are a couple of problems.

I don't know much about the Acer One AOD250 but the Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 I just bought a couple months ago for $330 has a 6 cell battery (5800mAh, 59W) that lasts at least 7 hours, and I added a 2GB SODIMM module without a problem. No built in bluetooth, but I bought a cordless bluetooth mouse that uses a bluetooth USB adapter, so now I have Bluetooth.

It’s just another example of ill-considered marketing. If Acer had been up front and not implied on their packaging that they were selling something that they were not I would have been perfectly satisfied, and they would not be stuck with an open box. |

Be careful.....Best Buy is doing the same thing with the Asus. They had a special model made for them, with different specs, so if you think you are getting this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846 you are really getting this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218068507709 |

Note the difference in model numbers; BestBuy's is EPC1000HEB and Amazon's is EEE PC 1000HE. Last edited by wodin; 05-27-2009 at 04:10 PM. |
