Aren't most things that go on your legs plural, like trousers, trunks, pants, jeans? Aren't most things that go on your upper body singular, like a shirt, blouse, jacket, vest? Might it be because most people have 2 legs?

In Danish a brassiere is called a breast holder, (brystholder). Doesn't that raise a question about your number of appendages thesis?

I thought is was about number of legs being two, therefore garments associated with them being plural. Was I wrong?
