Is Linux Wayland all that bad? Would yes, no, maybe be considered a valid response? Wayland was supposed to be a replacement for X11 and in some ways succeeds. OTOH, it's application isolation has some issues, screen-recording is still not supported and there are still way too many glitches compared to X11. Part of this seems to be due the fragmentation of Linux implementations. |

Is this the same sort of issue that Mint had going from gnome 2 to gnome 3 initially? Is the solution if it ain't broke don't fix it? KISS? |

Perhaps if a few developers would get together and compare notes? If it ain't broke, we can still make it better? The English language version of "Comme d'habitude"?

Is it perhaps more likely "chacun à son goût"? Is it more likely each flavour of any OS will develop within its own walls rather than reaching out to collaborate? Or am I being a tad too cynical? As we seem to be getting close to being an OS thread should we move on to something else? How about is climate change a modern phenomenon? Last edited by Martinoptic; 09-03-2025 at 06:19 AM. It is possible to ask too many questions about an operating system? Is it possible to ask too many questions about any topic? Could Jim Nabors have taken Jim Morrison's place in The Doors?

Would you give a look at this? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Reproducible_builds (https://reproducible-builds.org/docs/definition/) On climate change there is one discussion which is very rarely mentioned - imho, would you try to guess? Spoiler:
Btw, it would had be nice if Jimi Hendrix is really Morgan Freeman. Spoiler:
