Okay. A few questions I can answer now:

* My calibre language is English.

* What site is difficult to answer. AO3 and ffnet, seemingly, and maybe tthfanfic.org - but that's a crapshot answer, since those are the only 3 sites I ever use.

* Yes, they are exactly identical by identifiers:url - it's part of why I even noticed: I did a cursory "find duplicate - identifiers:url" in my calibre library, found about 20+ of them, all of them dated for after 13th of December, and wondered. I suppose that was after a new fanficfare plugin update? And then the next time I was updating, I actually looked at the log and saw it was *adding* the fics instead of *updating*, thought I'd accidentally chosen the wrong option, did not add those fics but rather started the update chapters progress again, and then it came out it wasn't me mischoosing but fanficfare actively choosing to add the stories instead of chapter updating.

* I *think* it might have been both with the IMAP fetching and normal url downloading, but I seriously cannot say. I'll have to pay more attention the next time I download, because to my annoyance, I've been noticing this since about the 20th of December and still keep forgetting to start calibre in debug mode or take the necessary detailed notes on each update.

As mentioned before, there is some inconsistency in this whole thing (like which site, when, etc.), but that might be just because I wasn't paying enough attention.

I'll try to pay as much attention as possible this time and get back to you with a bit more info in a few days.

@edeniz,

fff_plugin.py hasn't been changed since Nov 11, 2018. There were last changes made to the 'collision' (add, update, etc) code back in October.

If you haven't, I'd suggest grabbing the latest test version in case you're running old code.

November 11, really? That's strange. I could have sworn there was an update notification for fanficfare in calibre in December too. Must have confused it with another plugin then.

But anyway, I did use the previous test version and the problem was there despite that, and after I made my post above, I saw that there is a new test version out again and grabbed that one too. Let's see if that one makes any difference.

The plugin did update in Dec, but the code for the plugin part (vs the downloader part) didn't change.

If you can ideally get a debug capture, or at least a detailed description of "this is what I did with these story URLs and this is what happened", that would help a lot.

But until I have more detail, I don't even have anywhere to start looking. I download updates several times a day myself and I'm just not seeing it.

Hello,

I just noticed that www.whofic.com has totally changed their site. When updating any stories from there I got the error "'NoneType' object has no attribute 'find_all'" in the log. I tried to download a new story (just picked a random one) and got the same issue, so I'm thinking that the site code has been changed. Is there any way that FanFicFare can be altered to work with it again?

I double-checked my archive code/login today, and have also tried the “Get URLs from Webpage” with another ArchiveofOurOwn page which got the same error.

Have you downloaded and installed the test version mentioned immediately previous to both of your last posts? The one with fixes for AO3?

Just a note to say I was having HTTP error when trying to grab URL from the web pages to download from AO3. Installing the test version 3.39 seems to have fixed it so far. TYSM!

I know I was asking similar questions 1.5 years ago, but I had to reinstall Windows and lost the settings file on the GUI version.

I've been trying to make Fimfiction custom columns work, but they're not working for me.

I added a custom column with the header Likes with lookup name #likes as "comma separated text, like Tags".

I have went into Customize FanFicFare, then Custom Columns, checked the box Allow custom_columns_settings from personal.ini to override, went to the personal.ini file and added these lines to [overrides]:

custom_columns_settings:
likes_label=>#likes
groups_label=>#groups


It still doesn't work and I've been trying for hours how to get it to work, especially going over the documentation and searching the thread and my last posts.

Please, if you can tell me what's making the things fail, I would appreciate it wholeheartedly.

1. Don't use _label -- whatever_label is only for labeling whatever. (This is probably your problem.)
2. Make sure you have a space leading each line to be included in multi-line config items such as custom_columns_settings.
3. Put it in the correct section -- putting it in [overrides] will effectively disable custom_columns_settings in any other section.
4. Use add_to_ feature in case you want to put other, more common metadata entries in [defaults].
