I've run into a problem where FFF will timeout and not download fics with over 70 or 80 chapters, primarily only when the story is on fanfiction.net. The word count doesn't seem to matter, just the number of chapters. I've been able to work around the problem by using FanFictionDownloader after I get an error, and then adding the story manually. I would prefer to be able to download all the stories using FFF, though, so I was wondering if you know of some tweak I can do to make FFF work as FFDL is.

Basically, ffnet (to the best of my knowledge) throttles based on number of network requests. Each chapter is a separate network request, so more chapters as well as more stories will hit those limits faster.

About the only thing you could change in FFF is the user_agent setting, which may or may not help if set to masquerade as a regular browser. How to do that has been discussed here before.

Aside from allowing you to edit title/author in Reject list, these changes are internal and dev tools.

Am I the only one unable to download fanfics? I can't do it from the plugin, nor the webpage. I tried with fanfiction.net (no matter how short the fic is) and spacebattle forums.

The error has the percentage stuck at 1 percent.

edit: okay, it worked on calibre (it took 18 minutes). The website still gives a: Error: Server Error

Do you have any error messages? Have you run Calibre in debug mode (under Calibre Preferences dropdown) to see what it says there?

How long are you waiting? SB/SV can take a while (up to minutes) to download the chapter lists because of the way they are divided.

Also, fanfiction.net is known to throttle or block users who have downloaded too much, too quickly. No, we don't have any numbers to quantify too much or too quickly.

Im not sure what the issue is with FF.net I just got all the stories with http://ff2ebook.com
no problem. I couldn't even get one of their stories. As for the one on SB, it took 18 minutes (I basically forgot it running and came back to it being done, opening the jobs to check the time).

Im gonna head somewhere now, but Ill recheck using what you told me.

Also now that I think about it, would a vpn cause issues with the process?

If it works eventually, then it's usually not a bug in FFF. And if FFF stopped working for ffnet in generally, I assure you, everyone would be telling me about it.

It could well. If the VPN makes it look like there are a ton of requests coming from the same place, that IP may well be blocked or throttled by the site(s).

I did check the security setting in gmail and it seemed fine. I'm using thunderbird and trying to select the mails from an rss-feed.

All I can suggest is following the instructions on the page linked to, and the other pages it links to such as 'allow less secure apps to access your account'.

I don't know what happened, but I must not have enabled the "less than safe" setting. Even though I thought I had.

First want to thank you for a great plug-in ... I really love it ..
Not, sure I missed something ... but when I generate an Anthology epub with this plug-in ... I get a cover generated is the default style ... not what I have configued in the "generate covers" plug-in ... Have I missed something, or is this not capable currently .. in general my anthologies come from the same site and don't cross source sites.
if it is not currently capable perhaps this can be added to the wish list ...
