New Reader with great pdf-support: Mantano Reader (like aldiko+ezpdf) - Page 88

Haven't really used Mantano for a few months but I did yesterday and noticed when I closed the books without going back to the library screen or went to a different app temporarily it basically forgot where I was.

I don't think it's usable anymore if I can't trust it to remember where I am I just can't relax enough to enjoy the reading.

Unfortunately it seems it's went from almost perfect to really not fit for purpose in recent updates, I might just keep to play books from now on.

I want to go back to the last good version. I do own the premium version. I found a copy of 1.3.11, but think it is too early. Was the last good one 2.3.9? If so, anywhere on the net that might have a backup of it?

Agree with Teknikal - totally unusable as it is.

Update: found some old copies on the net and will try them. Still not sure where the page remembering fiasco started - anyone know?

Update 2: turns out the old copies won't work on my Nexus 7 due to it's update to Android 5. Guess it's back to Moon +

Well I just bought Moon+ it will definitely take a bit of getting used to but I'm going to give it a fair shot at least until Mantano fixes their bookmarking issue, can't hurt to have a backup anyway.

You might also like to try the PocketBook app by Obreey as a backup for Mantano. It's free and has better support for epub internal css than Moon+. But it doesn't have as many tweakable settings as Moon+, which may be a good/bad thing depending on your POV.

I can deal with not being able to bookmark, but I can't deal with the page numbering issue. Now it is losing the current page when I go to home page and back to Mantano. Really too bad, it was such a nice app!

Have you written to them about it?

When I went to them with the problem about duplicate pages, they corrected it fairly quickly.

PocketBook app looks really good! Is there a guide somewhere? Also, do you know if it copies my current books into a new directory, or just points to them?

It appears that I can't access anywhere to write them - I did when the problem first started and they (and I) thought it was corrected. Then it started happening again and the site I used originally to email them has disappeared. Do you have a link?

Do you switch between reading in portrait and horizontal?

Thanks, don't know why I couldn't access it before. Will write them. Yes, I do switch between portrait and horizontal, but I remember the page # and just reset when I do it. The frustrating thing is when I go back to the catalog and then to a book, it loses the number - I read several books at a time and this is non-workable for me. It may be the new Android OS that is causing some of the problems, so I'll be sure and tell them that.

I haven't found a guide, I just did my usual poking around every menu I could find. The GUI is a little quirky and some things are not immediately obvious (e.g. it took me ages to find out how to access the TTS button).

I may be wrong but I don't think it makes copies of all your books.

Question on Pocketbook: I found the place to change the Area Configurations, but couldn't find where to change the left side tap to go forward a page instead of back a page. Do you know how? I sent a note to them asking but haven't heard back.

If your interest is mostly in reading unprotected epub, give Fbreader a try. Their epub formatting I find is now much better than Moon, though maybe not as good as mantano. Be sure to install the bookshelf plugin (their default library view is awkward) and the excellent tts plugin if you like tts.
