Cool Empty Night

I should look it up and give you an actual quote, but I'm too lazy. I just thought with all the "Nights" and "Knights" floating around and getting confused (Summer Knight/night, White Night/knight) a pseudo-curse with the word "night" in it fit right in.

Also, isn't Empty Night one of the titles Butcher hasn't written yet??? I could be totally wrong here, but without looking it up I thought you (Alan) had told us that was one of the proposed titles of the final trilogy -- or perhaps that was a joke? lol
Hmmmm....Empty Night, that's a term that I apparently never absorbed. Oh well! I'll certainly remember it now.

Big Apocalyptic Trilogy

The Big Apocalyptic Trilogy is the name given for the intended last books of the The Dresden Files series.
Description Edit

According to Jim Butcher he intends to capstone the Dresden Files with a "Big Apocalyptic Trilogy" because "who doesn't like Apocalyptic Trilogies?"

He originally intended for the Dresden Files to contain 20 Case Files and then finish off with the Trilogy but has stated in several signing sessions that the events that take place in Changes were intended to happen at the book 10 midpoint, so the casefiles may run as high as 22-24 books.

The titles for the trilogy are: Hell’s Bells, Stars and Stones, and Empty Night.

References:

2010 Huston Signing
2009 Chicago Signing

Even though the references were a bit old there was some information included in the above quote that I'd not seen before."

"Let's Dance" - Honor Harrington

*Ha* what a coincidence - Like Dresden, Honor is currently under the sword of Damocles .... However, its her Naval career at risk, not her life.

The danger was short lived. They scared her "to death" to teach her a lesson. I can't say any more without *spoiling* the story. I enjoyed, "Let's Dance"; it reminded me of why I was into this series in the first place. I am very happy I'll be starting my reread of On Basilisk Station with much more background than I had the first time around.

I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to read through all of the technical stuff at the ends of More Than Honor and In Fire Forged. I read through a lot of the historical info, but not all of it.

If you didn't like it, you might still like the series. You'll meet new and continuing protagonists along the way, and it has been said that Butcher's writing improves from one book to the next.

Good luck, have fun, and let us know what YOU think!
Alright, yesterday evening I finished Storm Front. To be honest I actually expected more.
I didn't like the combination of a detective story and magic. It felt to me that the reader is not in the position to figure the mystery. Magic can always make things reasonable, when logic failes.

I will read Fool Mool to give this series another chance. I want to see why alansplace is so hooked by these books.

@alansplace What was it that the author wanted to prove to his professor?

Since Harry's character was created with a mix of attributes from Jim Butcher's favorite fictional private detectives (Holmes and Spenser) and wizards (Merlin and Gandalf), considering what you just said, it seems to me that it is unlikely that you'll like any of the Harry Dresden books for those very same reasons.

I like them because they never fail to entertain me and because of the things that you state that you don't care for.

He says he was trying to prove to her that her method she was teaching them was no good and led to formulaic pap.

I watched the whole DF TV series a few years ago, but just jumped into the first audiobook a couple weeks ago. I was skeptical, as I am going into all fantasy and the "urban" variety in particular, but I ended up burning through it in about three days. Harry is a great character, and the book had a great balance of action and humor.

It seems that we have some similarities as I viewed the entire Dresden Files TV series when it aired for the first time on SyFy and then because I'd very much enjoyed it and it wasn't renewed I went to Amazon.com and bought the first book in the series, Storm Front and the rest is history (I suppose).

I'm not so sure I can believe that list given the very large mistake they made. A Memory of Light is not the 3rd most anticipated Fantasy book in 2012. It is THE MOST ANTICIPATED fantasy book of 2012.
