So what's a good read similar to Alera or Cinder Spire? CS was really a fun read - I hope we don't have to wait too long to see how Folly's visions of the future play out...

The good thing about Cinder Spires is that it is meant to be only 3 books, maybe 6 if the first 3 turn out successful. So we probably end up with 6 just like Alera.

I hope we do not have to wait ten years for the next one.

Is there a site for discussion of CS? I'd like to see a map of Habble Landing given that only one corner of the square habble would meet the wall of the round spire. From the story I pictured the shipyard extending a long distance along one side of the habble. And how about a TV adaptation like The Magicians? |

Personally I think the balance in length and omitting too many details is done quite excellent in Codex Alera. IMHO, Jim is doing a greater job than, say, Tom Clancy or J.R.R. Tolkien by not making it at times too boring. Quote:
As for the habbles - all four corners touch the outside wall of the round spire, even in Habble Landing. The air dock is built outside the spire and required punching a hole through the outside wall of the spire. |

To my knowledge it never released in hardcover. The first printing was the trade paperback. The one (trade) I ordered from Amazon was a POD that wasn't even in stock, it got printed the day I placed my order.

Just finished 2nd book of Morris & Chastain series and I noticed quite a few grammatical or spelling mistakes. They don't look like OCR mistakes, but typing mistakes. Makes me wonder if a copy editor or at least proof reader would have helped. Anyone else notice that?
Small things like "now" instead of "know" or "do" instead of "to." E.g. this one that cannot be mistaken for dialect or something: Quote:

It is a good thing since that is the only nitpick I have so far about the books. |
