That is my point.

A terminally stupid and incredibly risky activity, which has the added-but-not-necessary-disadvantage of ALSO being incredibly uncomfortable (balancing on a tiny pole without padding)...

Seems pretty unrealistic to me.


The Middle Eastern flying carpet tradition has the advantage of making a modicum of sense.
In Russia they have their flying mortar and pestle, which looks pretty silly but probably also works.
Venturesome Chinese magicians have even tried their hand at flying clouds.

Why did Europe have to pick something stupid like brooms?
