Reading Percentage to a Custom Column.
I'm trying to add the reading percentage on the bottom right corner of the ePub reader to an custom column, so that I can see how long I have read each book rather than opening them to find it out.
Correct me if I'm wrong. The percentege read is not an metadata of the book rather it's an addition feature of teh calibre or the ePub reader application. Please asssit me in setting the column up. Meanwhile I'll try to make it work, Let's see. Thanks in advance. |

You can, as you found, overwrite instead of update, or you can use the 'a' for add flag on custom_columns_settings. I'm not sure what that would do to keeping order. Spoiler:

I'd look in the Viewer and/or Library Management subforums. |

I am having trouble using fanfiction downloader when downloading from fanfiction.net. it was working fine on my older windows 8 system but that system is starting to die so I updated to a newer system and I uploaded a newer version of Calibre and FanFicFare. I set the ini the same way.
browser_cache_path:C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\fa nficdownloader\QtWebEngine\Default\GPUCache and after [www.fanfiction.net] I put use_browser_cache_path:true. This now says Forbidden URL, Which when tested in the older system it still works. What am I missing in this newer version? |

You could use WebToEpub, open_pages_in_browser, or even downgrade to an earlier version of FFF. See: https://github.com/JimmXinu/FanFicFa...erCacheFeature I'm not certain what "Forbidden URL" means in this case. It would depend where and when exactly you saw it, but I would speculate if FFF reported it, that the path to browser cache wasn't the same, or wasn't there yet. |

Hi, is there a way to fuse a story from two diferent sites? like not in anthology. Some times there are authors who upload their stories on diferent sites and the story is the same but the users that like to do omakes do it on the site they mainly use so you have diferent omakes on diferent sites, is there a way to have like "main" site and then just inject the omakes on the epub?

Not really. I don't know of any good way for FFF to do that.
The FFF anthology feature can be used with story URLs from different sites, but that doesn't 'fuse' them. Something I use myself for a handful of stories that appear on both SpaceBattles and SufficientVelocity is keep both stories in my library, but not include the main story in one. Example: Code:
[https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/a-darker-path-worm-fanfic.107715/] add_to_skip_threadmarks_categories:,Threadmarks,Informational add_to_replace_metadata: title=>^(.*)$=>\1 SV Omakes Theoretically, you could use that with anthology, but I haven't tried it. |

I used anthology feature while using the code but modifing it with my story and it kinda works. I like to have the omakes in between chapters and this way it doesn't do that (only for the "main" one) but at least I don't have the story duplicated and it's just one epub so, is better than what it was, thanks for the help!

What is the reasoning for not allowing a replace_metadata to have a conditional of the same type that's being replaced?
I have the impression it's to prevent FFF from getting caught in a recursive loop, but I can't remember if I've asked this before or if it's an educated guess. |

Is it possible to make it so that you can actually use the cancel button in the fetch metadata popup? I've noticed that when FFF is unable to fetch the metadata due to a website error, it just freezes Calibre and I'm forced to end the entire Calibre process and restart to continue using Calibre. Even in cases where the website has no problems, the metadata fetch popup with the cancel button is unresponsive so you can't cancel until FFF gets to actually downloading the story.
I'm using Calibre v7.2 on Windows 10. |

For what it matters, HTTP status codes in the 5xx range are pretty much all serverside issues - - 500 Internal Service Error, 502 Bad Gateway, 503 Service Unavailable, 504 Gateway Timeout, etc etc. There isn't much to be done except wait for the site to be fixed.
The 4xx range are more likely client errors - so if you get 401 Unauthorized, 403 Forbidden, etc, that's when you'd want to check your FFF settings. (Though 404 Not Found and 410 Gone would indicate that the page isn't there.) Last edited by ownedbycats; 12-22-2023 at 06:58 PM. |
