Unfortunately, no.
Calibre doesn't have any mechanism for GUI plugins to be automatically activated. Both calling for updates and the 'proceed to update library' dialog need GUI interaction. I believe that some plugins allow for bypassing the 'proceed to update' dialog, but last I heard, that is Calibre's official way of protecting the library from multiple actions overwriting each other and should not be skipped. |

Extract ISBN and Count Pages (both kiwidude's plugins) both have this option.

@JimmXinu - Calibre 6.16 adds a 'recycle bin' in the right-click of delete menu. After updating a fic, the old versions appear under the 'formats' tab.
Don't know if there's any way around this, and personally don't think this behaviour needs to be turned off as most users probably won't be poking around in there. (Plus it may be useful in case of glitches or user errors.) But I thought you should know in case you think otherwise. ![]() EDIT: Also, a quick test (and glance at hidden .caltrash folder in library folder) it seems it doesn't keep multiple copies, so a user won't end up with a half-dozen slightly differing versions. Calibre Trash Can
I don't think FFF needs to do anything special about this. We'll have to watch for issues.
Tech Details: Spoiler:
I'm a bit surprised--as I recall, Kovid had previously not wanted a trash can in Calibre. And I don't find any discussion of it here in MR, in the bug tracker or in github. I wonder what changed his mind? |

Calibre 6.16 also adds an extra data folder inside the book folder. If I store a cover image in there, can force_cover_image use a relative path, or do I need to use the full path?
If the latter is the case I'd have to take some measures against the author's name changing. EDIT: It will also be useful for keeping old versions of fanfics ![]() Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-22-2023 at 05:53 PM. |

force_cover_image hasn't been changed, so no.
force_cover_image and default_cover_image share code that expects a file:// URL rather than a file pathname. I don't think relative paths will work. |

Swapping Metadata Columns
I am struggling with an issue with ScribbleHub and my Google skills are failing me.
ScribbleHub lists both genre and tags for a story. The ScribbleHub adapter loads the tags into Category and Defaults includes genre in Subject Tags. This is the opposite of what I want. I want the story tags to be in the Tags column. This is easy enough, except that I also want the genres to be in the Category column, to match what I do with other sites. No matter what I've tried in personal.ini, I lose the actual tags and either end up with genre in both columns or just a lone "FanFiction" entry that I can't figure out how to get rid of. (Yes, I have a blank extratags: in there.) So, my question is, how do I move the tags from category to subject tags before I overwrite category with the genre values? - Andrew |

I'm not familiar too much with scribblehub, but check the defaults.ini include_in_* entries.

applegaa, the word 'tags' is ambiguous, and metadata entries are not the same thing as what ends up in Calibre's Tags column, aka 'subject tags'. So I'm not 100% sure I know what you are saying. But I will make an attempt.
I think this does it: Code:
[www.scribblehub.com] # Remove genre & extratags from Calibre Tags. include_subject_tags: category, characters, ships, status # Add a custom column setting to the list for genre, # flag 'r' for replace to overwrite more generic setting add_to_custom_columns_settings: genre=>#yourcategorycol,r |

Question:
'New only' on columns requires turning off to override. Is there an easier way I don't know of, or a similar option that populates only undefined columns? Last edited by ownedbycats; 04-22-2023 at 07:34 PM. |

No, there isn't. I would suggest manually filling the field instead in those cases.
