Which, on Windows10 at least, has a browser cache that FFF can read. For me it's at:

C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\fanficdownloader\cache \QtWebEngine\Default\Cache

...and setting FFF's browser_cache_path to use it works fine.

Basically, you're replacing WebToEpub and your browser with FFDL.

This works great and updates many of the old stories from before. I just download the whole thing and then run the update and it runs it from there and updates the chapters that are not there. Much easier and less work, just download the favorites.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up! Works great for me, Win7 with Calibre Portable 5.26, FFF 4.5.0. I used to use FFDL before I discovered FFF, so when things went bad with FFN, I just went back to downloading it with FFDL, but the metadata doesn't update that way. This fixes that!

I read there were some issues but since English is not my first language I think I'm missing something in translation 'cause I don't get it, that or I just don't get it at all 'cause I haven't been able to download anything in the past weeks.

The site changed. The latest FFF test version posted here (and always linked in my signature) fixes it. Install instructions in that post.

Did you read the post? "Rather than posting test versions in line, the newest test version will be in this posting, so it's always in the same place."

Yes, it was first posted then. Yes, it is updated for new test versions. Look at the updated timestamp at the bottom. Just below the attached zip file containing the test version. Which is in turn just below the installation instructions in a spoiler tag.

I was not able to use FFDL 0.9.4 on Linux at all.

I tried Ubuntu 21.04 and 20.04. In both cases it wanted a shared library for QtWebEngine that wasn't installed. FFDL doesn't appear to have an installer or instructions for installing necessary dependencies and I don't elect to figure it out right now.



I will put it there eventually, yes. If it turns out to work for more people than not and is useful. Right now, I don't know if it works for anyone else or if anyone finds it all useful.

I just used it to successfully download a pair of long (~100 chapter) fics from ffn.net. It was very nice not to have to page through the whole thing one chapter at a time to get it into a browser cache.

I'd definitely say this idea is a winner for sure.

Just tried it out. Worked great and much faster than using the Chrome cache. Copy/Paste from FF.net emails to .txt file for FFDL to read from. Same thing I had to do in Calibre with FFF to update multiple stories. Definitely nice cutting out the opening each story/chapter in Chrome to get them into the cache. Thanks for figuring this out. Still a bummer to have the middle step between FF.net and FFF but we gotta do what we gotta do.

If it's faster than the Chrome cache, I think I will try it myself next time I've got an update.

Logically, FFF should be faster using FFDL's cache because the FFDL cache will only contain story pages and therefore much smaller.

Whether FFDL is faster to download than WebToEpub is going to depend on settings. FFDL also has some sleep-between-connections settings.

Hi!

I have a -- probably somewhat pedantic -- question: Is there a way to exclude certain metadata values in an epub's content.opf?

Specifically, I'm looking to leave out the creation date/dateCreated. It's nice and easy to do for the title page, but nothing I've tried works for the opf.
