Hello.
First, I want to say, awesome work with the jailbreak. I managed to apply it and install KOReader, and I loved it. Now to my problem. Like I said I succeeded in applying the jailbreak a few days ago, but I managed to mess it up. When I first did the jailbreak I was on 5.15.1.1. I used RenameOTAbin to disable updates and logging. Eventually I wanted to get some e-books that I had on my Amazon account, and so I had to register my Kindle. I did that and then de-registered afterwards, since the ads came back and I believed that by de-registering I would be able to get rid of them again. This broke KUAL, it disappeared for my library. To get things back in order I believed that I needed to reapply the jailbreak, so I tried to do that. Now things become a little fuzzy, I don't really remember the order in which things happened. I remember that I saw the "Jailbreak" message on a restart and that I tried using ;log at some point, and I got the message in the top left corner. I tried to apply the jailbreak again, but could not get it to work, I believe the issue was that the "pseudot" was not shown in the language select menu. I ended up trying again a few times, after which I decided to update to 5.16.2.1.1 since I remembered that in the instruction it said it works best on this version. I still could not get it to work. At some point I got stuck in a Chinese demo and had to use "DO_FACTORY_RESTORE" to get back to a normal English version. Somewhere along the way ;log no longer gave me the message, but instead it brings up a page with some greyed out options. At some point I also tried to install the language hotfix, but it said it failed and the kindle restarted. The state in which I am now is as follows. I am on 5.16.2.1.1, and it seems the Kindle works just fine. I can go through the jailbreak process, but it does not work. Most of the time, I don't get the "pseudot" option in the language menu. When I do get it, and I select Chinese, my kindle restarts without log messages. I tried using the one-click method as well. After transferring the files and restarting, I go to the store and click yes, but I get no Jailbreak button. My question is. Can I somehow get the jailbreak back? I liked it very much. Thanks! |

I'm in a similar situation, perhaps worse, to the one described in the previous post. I ran Languagebreak 1.0.2.1 on a Kindle with firmware 5.16.2.1.1, then successfully installed Kual, Koreader, and Renameotabin. However, I realized that I remained in managed mode and therefore could not activate airplane mode. I tried to exit managed mode, but I couldn't. At that point I tried to reinstall Languagebreak starting from step 1, but it was no longer possible. I thought it would be better to reset the device to do a clean install, but even then I can no longer restore the Languagebreak.
In my case the critical steps are 7 and 16: 7. Once the demo is setup, do the "secret gesture" (double finger tap on bottom right of screen then swipe left) In my case, a window opens first with a message with two buttons at the bottom (CLOSE and RAISE A BUG), which I attach: Collecting Debug info Generating Core Dump file for process KPPMainAppV2 https://wiki.corp.lab126.com/mediawi...ore_Dump_Files for instructions on filing at JIRA I found a message of the same type in this post and NiLuJe wrote: "That's the side-effects of having to flag the device as a debug-friendly for JB purposes. That's an internal lab126 URL." After the message, the image often does not appear or appears for a very short time and it is difficult or impossible to perform the "secret gesture" and I go directly to the next screen. Step 16. (Hold the power button as instructed on screen) Despite being quick to complete the operation, when I press the power button instead of going to the language selection menu the Kindle restarts and returns to the Set Up your Kindle home page in normal mode. So at this point all my attempts to reinstall Languagebreak fail. Can anyone more experienced give me advice or should I definitely give up on jailbreaking? |

Do you happen to restart Kindle while it is plugged? Unplug it then restart

If you are referring to step 16, when I am very fast at copying files I manage to safely disconnect the Kindle from the PC and press the power button, but at that point the Kindle restarts instead of taking me to the language selection menu. However, if I'm not fast enough, the Kindle disconnects itself and restarts anyway.
I apologize, but I don't understand exactly what you recommend me to do. |

I tried to install your hotfix, but unfortunately the "Update your Kindle" option is grayed out and I can't click on it. I rebooted twice, hotfix is always in the Kindle root, but I didn't notice any difference. Should I check something? In the library I also have 8 KPPMainAppV2 files, which are perhaps related to the "Collecting Debug info" messages.

I noticed that after many hours the battery is still at 99%: is it the Kindle that consumes very little or could it be because the DONT_CHECK_BATTERY file is present in the Kindle root?

I can however install the 5.16.2.1.1 firmware without issue. At some point I think I did it by putting the file in root and restarting, since "Install Kindle Update" was greyed out. You mention not being in a clean state. Could RenameOTAbin have something to do with that, or does it revert to the original state on factory reset or when I installed the 5.16 firmware? |

I just tried to install the language hotfix again. I attached a picture of the message.

The point *ought* to be moot if you've actually successfully reinstalled an official FW since, though. |

I also lost my Scribe's jailbreak updated to firmware version 5.16.5. And now ;log mrpi doesn't launch and there is no "jailbreak" message when kindle scribe boots. I tried to restore Jailbreak and ;log mrpi functionality but nothing helped. Does anyone suggest if this link works to restore ;log mrpi and jailbreak?
Instruction from link: 1.Copy the new firmware (5.16.6 when it will be available) and emergency.sh together into the root directory of Kindle; 2.Upgrade the firmware via Kindle's menu button (Menu->Settings->Restart); 3.After the restart is complete, you will see following three files in the root directory of Kindle: done_emergency.sh old_debug_cmds.json new_debug_cmds.json 4.Restart your Kindle again, and now you can run ;log command as normal. Step 1 was probably a mistake!
You might have lost your JB for good. Usually, you shouldn’t let Kindle update/factory reset twice in a row on a new firmware (that doesn’t support JB). However, chance are still there, try emergency.zip instructions in the end of this post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=484 Go to Airplane ASAP. Delete any new remnants of update.bin.partial files on Kindle storage. Put the four files on Kindle and restart. If they disappear after Kindle boots back, you are good - install hotfix from NiLuJe via mrpi. |

Then you can continue following the post to downgrade to 5.16.2.

Actually, scribe was rebooted twice with 5.16.5 firmware and four files from emergency-bridge-recovery.zip didn't disappear after reboot. So I'm looking for another method to restore jailbreak (if this possible), one of them I mentioned above.
