Hi,

i used the Languagebreak on my PW3, and it worked fine. I recently cracked the display, and decided to just get another PW3.
I didn't manage to jailbreak it, i got an error and a crash and decided to follow the advice to update to 5.16.2.1.1, my first PW3 has that firmware as well.

Sadly that did not work out, when i reboot after entering ;enter_demo i get a crash and a KPP logfile is created?
I attached them to the post, maybe it's helpful.

I can progress up to step 15-16 of the guide, but then i don't get a language menu at all.
Before i updated to 5.16.2.1.1, i did get a language menu, i also got a log message on the screen, but the kindle ended up in some unusable state and i had to reset it.

I also attached pictures of both kindles, the right one is jailbroken and i managed to install kual and koreader, the left one is the new one and resisting.

Would appreciate some pointers, i did factory-reset multiple times and i re-tried the entire process 6-8 times but it always fails.

@jay29 Hello, I have the same issue but if you have seen the project work once, then there is workaround to running stuff, do this:

First install: LanguageBreak hotfix just by putting in in root dir related to your language of choice (and running Update from settings)

Create `mrpackages` and `extensions` folders on kindle.

Download `K5 JailBreak Hotfix` bin and put in `mrpackages` folder, download `MR Package Installer` and unpack it in `extensions` folder as usual (from https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=225030)

Now after this you can run (by typing in search) `;log mrpi` to install hotfix too.

And after it reboots you can download and unpack koreader folder onto Kindle.

Then create RUNME.sh with content:

/bin/sh /mnt/us/koreader/koreader.sh

Running (typing in serch) `;log runme` will start Koreader, so Jailbreak works but for some reason it's broken enough so KUAL doesn't.

I got to this so I can run scripts on Kindle with `;log runme` but no one can answer why it's broken or how to fix it, I also tried reinstalling firmware and doing it from scratch same bug report as you said shows.

I tried your steps, but i immediately got "update failed".
I just took them both apart and swapped the mainboards, now i got a working jailbroken kindle again.

I think i reset the power at step 14 and it wouldn't let me put the files on the kindle(step 15).
I read someone else had that issue and just continued and it worked out, so i thought i would try it.

I was stuck in chinese, so i thought i would continue the process and just switch back to english, but...
Now I'm stuck in chinese and demo mode.
I tried ;demo and then 4th one down resell
i had a few messages popup no idea what they say.

But i couldn't get back to the part where i can switch it back to English and start over.
Can someone please give me some advice on what to try next?

I'm still in demo mode, chinese, screen saver going and there is a popup message every so often.


Is there a way to switch back to english in demo mode?

i saw something like ;debugOn and then ~setlanguage or something similar but that didn't do anything.

i tried side loading and reselling option, nothing seems to work.
I cannot connect to my computer as a media device anymore either.

I forgot to ask, Can i just hit the Remote Reset option in the demo menu?
Will that allow me to select english and start over again?

I was able to get out of Chinese language mode ONLY ONE WAY.

I believe i made an initial error and transferred the whole languagebreak folder, not just the files.
If you did that too, this is the fix. If you didn't do that, don't try this pls, ask someone who knows and can verify what you should do.

If you've tried everything in this thread and you still couldn't get out of Chinese Language mode.
1) after you fully reboot back into demo mode, Use ;uzb transfer over only the language(en-US)file.bin of your choosing.
2) Unmount kindle
3) enter ;dsts and look below, select the phone/tablet icon, click the ... and select Update Kindle. (更新)
4)This will restart your kindle and then select English or whichever language you prefer
5) restart the whole jailbreaking process and make sure to only copy over the files from the LanguageBreak folder directly to the root of the kindle. Do not copy the folder or anything else, just the files in the languagebreak folder.

I was able to jailbreak the device and see the custom msg on the screen, upon reboot.

Where it went wrong
I believe i copied over the entire folder(languagebreak) over to the kindle the first time(should be files only on root dir, not the folder). I should have slept more last night, i think the lack of sleep got the best of me and i wasn't focused. at least i figured out how to start over.

I didn't realize i'd be learning some Chinese today(because of my mistake), but it was fun.

Thank you for the jailbreak, this is amazing. I will install mrpi next.

I figured out what i did wrong and it was my fault.
I moved the entire folder over, not just the files, so the jailbreak didnt run at all and i was stuck in Chinese language mode. Read my last reply, to see what i had to do if your interested. Once i put it back into English, it was as easy as following the directions perfectly.

Hello, I had a similar outcome with jay29 except the jailbreak worked and I got the log files afterwards. I typed ;log and some text showed in the top left indicating it was successful and now I want to get KUAL working so I can use KOReader. Based on what Dexmaster has said, it isn't quite there yet and I don't want to run a command each time to just open KOReader, should I just wait a bit for someone to fix this or is it unlikely?

I am unable to advance past the last jailbreak guide 18 and take the kindle out of managed mode.

After initial jb reboot I see the jailbreak text on the screen and the device reboots still in demo mode. Entering ;uzb in the search field, nothing happens and my kindle doesn't mount when plugged into usb.

I can restart into the demo mode which allows me to side load the language break hot fix. Restarting shows mkk folders on the device but going back to ;demo the device restarts and all the jailbreak folders are gone.

I can't get the device out of managed mode and I need wifi for the device to connect to my smart home.

I have a kindle 4 basic 11 gen that was new and updated to firmware to 5.16.2.1

I'm currently on a kindle Paperwhite 11th gen (5.16.5). I'm new to the world of jailbreaking kindles, though now I want to meddle with it a bit. Jailbreaking seems to be essential to do anything outside of reading books. I'd appreciate any support and resources.

Yay new updated MRPI and Kual (coplate) worked with `;log mrpi`. It all works now and I can play with KUAL and don't need to do the RUNME.sh thing.
