I get crash report document from this booklet isntall too (tried hotfix and normal install both after `;log mrpi` do hush with bin destroy and reboot, but after reboot I see only new document a crash report) Yes I did install both hotfixes (from LanguageBreak and from NiLuJe) No I don't know what renameOTAbin package is, I'm not sure I have it, I see mkk, rp and a few more folders, but no such package there. Kual still cannot be installed and I don't know how to run it with RUNME.sh P.S. Both `;log mrpi` and `;log runme` work great, I can run Koreader from RUNME.sh just fine because I just pointed sh to koreader.sh path, that's it. Last edited by Dexmaster; 11-26-2023 at 02:51 PM. |

Keep in mind if you do factory reset, you need to reinstall NiLuJe’s hotfix! Don’t let update install right after factory reset - this is the straight path to wipe JB completely! (Or any other combination of two updates+resets)

Gesture details
I've done several jailbreaks, but never WatchThis! or LanguagesBreak and I have a question about the gesture. Is it 1 or 2?
Thanks. |

It is #2, gestures can be done slowly, but in quick succession.
However, most importantly - these gestures must be performed while there are screensaver changing every ~10 seconds, aka demo mode. I had many times booted into “demo” mode which only had one screensaver and gestures didn’t work at all. Then I had to hold the power button until the frontlight turned off and turned back on. |

I've managed to LanguageBreak a few of my PW 7th gen Kindles, but never on the first attempt. I learned quickly to take photos of each of the GUI pages I encountered, so when I end up in the Chinese language GUI I can still more forward and try again.

@NiLuJe, @Marek
I was doing some debug stuff in KOReader, playing with the screen orientation. SSH was connected via cable. At some point Kindle didn't like the last change I made to KOReader and opened it, and Kindle went into reboot. Cable was still connected, Kindle restarted, and then I see this "Collecting debug info" window again, books on the Home screen are shown without thumbnails, windows comes back often, SSH reported that Kindle refused connection. This rang me a bell regarding Rescue Pack - I can see after JB there is a folder "rp". I remember there was something that RP saves you if you were stuck and went into reboot with the cable attached - gives you a chance to restore things. I removed the cable and restarted again - everything normal again. Can I please remove this? Or is it vital for the JB? Thanks! |

P.S.
It seems that in this process I described above, the device passcode was removed! Weird! (UPDATE: it is probably because last time Kindle restarted while KOReader was up. KOReader temporarily disables the passcode while running, so it didn't have a chance to recover it). Last edited by mergen3107; 11-26-2023 at 12:29 AM. |

I have multiple Kindles (PW4 and PW5) with firmware 5.12.5 and 5.14.2.
Since the new Jailbreak has become available nearly a month ago (a big thank you, @Marek), I thought I would risk an update of one of the PW4s to 5.16.2.1.1 and a subsequent Jailbreak with the new LanguageBreak. After a large number of unsuccessful tries with the LanguageBreak (I couldn't reach the language selection in step 17), I thought that maybe the old jailbreak was still present somehow and interacting with the tries to install the new hack. I finally tried to use the emergency-bridge-recovery from the old Jailbreak and lo and behold, the Jailbreak was back. I was then able to install the MRInstaller and Kual, and following that, otarenamebin and usbnetwork. When I execute otarenamebin, nothing is shown. Logging in and checking the binaries shows, though, that nothing has been renamed. Executing the commands step by step (i.e., mounting the rootfs as rw, renaming both executables, remounting as ro and rebooting) works without problems, and I now have a Kindle that doesn't run the ota processes. But I find it strange that trying to use otarenamebin from KUAL doesn't change anything, but at the same time doesn't provide any errors or messages whatsoever. What is strange, in addition, is that both the old Jailbreak-Hotfix and the Update-hotfix_languagebreak (both german and english) cannot be installed and the Kindle shows an error in updating. My question: Is the jailbreak fully functioning and can I risk connecting to WiFi to re-register my Kindle? My next steps are to re-install KOReader, and the library-sync extension to sync my Calibre collections. [Edit]: KOReader doesn't work, neither the normal release, nor the newest nightly release. So, my second question: What can I do to install KOReader (this might have to do with the first question)? Thank you again, @Marek, and all the others (especially @mergen3107 who triggered the idea to use the emergency-bridge-recovery) in this thread for the new Jailbreak and all the ideas to use it. Cheers, Joachim Last edited by jbaumann; 11-26-2023 at 08:17 AM. |

Fantastic, this did it. Now the normal KOReader (monthly release) works without a problem, and I have re-registered my Kindle (after which I switched back to airplane mode). Nothing tried to interfere or install a newer firmware version
![]() The one thing I am missing is librarian sync. I understand the the needed python package hasn't been updated. Does that mean that I have to wait until a new version is released, or can I install the version from January? Thanks again, Marek. Cheers, Joachim |

I changed that to Python3 in generate_collections.py and it works like a charm. @NiJuLe, could you update this in your github repository (it is literally changing "2.7" to "3" in the first line of the file)? Thanks again, Joachim |

photos of English Language GUI screens
Sorry, don't know why it chose to rotate photos on me.
1. Type ;enter_demo in the Kindle search bar 2. Reboot the device Jailbreak_02.jpg 3. Once in demo mode, skip setting up wifi and enter random values for store registration Jailbreak_03.jpg 4. Skip searching for a demo payload Jailbreak_04.jpg 5. Select the "standard" demo type Jailbreak_05.jpg 6. Press "Done" at the prompt to sideload content. Jailbreak_06.jpg 7. Once the demo is setup, do the "secret gesture" (double finger tap on bottom right of screen then swipe left) Jailbreak_07.jpg 8. Enter the demo configuration menu by typing ;demo into the search bar 9. Select the "Sideload Content" option Jailbreak_09.jpg 10. Copy the contents of the LanguageBreak folder to the Kindle - merging and replacing all files Jailbreak_10.jpg 11. Unplug your kindle and go back to the demo menu (viz. step 8) 12. Select the "Resell Device" option press Yes/Resell Jailbreak_12a.jpg Jailbreak_12b.jpg 13. Now wait for the press power button to start Jailbreak_13.jpg 14. The second it appears plug your kindle back into your computer and copy the contents of the LanguageBreak folder into it once again, overwrite files then safely eject 15. Hold the power button as instructed on screen 16. A language selection menu should appear in a few seconds 17. Choose Chinese (The one above the odd Pseudot language, and/or below Japanese) 18. Your kindle should reboot and you should see some log message on the screen |

Thanks!
They show up with correct location when I click on them. Did you shrink your images? They are too small for me to make out for certain. |
