What's the md5 hash of the 'Update_KUALBooklet_78183a5_install.bin'?

That MRPI version is outdated, which at least explains the useless logging, and possibly the broken install, period.

I have redownloaded the mrpi package - rechecked the md5sum hash - deleted the old mrpi extension again - restarted the kindle - re-copied the r15706 extension folder to the kindle & still I get the sme problem with the log indicating the MRPI r15595 error.

Is there anyway the old MRPI is cached somehow - when I copy it to the kindle the file all seem to be correct.

My bad, that is indeed the latest version .

I'm not home so I can't say much more, besides that this is definitely weird, since you're hitting a codepath behind a non-zero check, and yet logging a zero return code...

do the same again, only this time, inbetween the "restarted" and the "re-copied" let the Kindle come up and make sure there is no trace of the previous MrPI(s), either in the gui, accessible from the search bar or visible over USB.

I suspect you are not actually replacing the one which is in use, the one with the problem. I.E: There is two or more copies installed (somewhere).
Perhaps associated with a stale or modified "runme" file.

I've now tried on another laptop with a different OS. This time restarting in between the copy of MRInstaller & the copy of the KUAL install file & the ;log mrpi command. Still exactly the same thing!

This is seriously strange. Just for some background, I've updated my firmware numerous times before & updated KUAL, KOReader, gawk, mrinstaller with no problem for about 2 years.

Is there anyway to manually install KUAL without mrinstaller??

Have you tried to reinstall the hotfix as update?

But did you do as I asked (after supposedly removing MrPI and restarting the Kindle), do the search (gui, search bar and USB connection) for another MrPI installation or other artifacts?

I did try to be clear and exact about what I wanted done, hopefully it will survive the translation this time.

I did - yes, I've tried in both a Gnome & KDE, Fedora 29 - 2 different installs.

NO.

Do the investigating on the Kindle.
Use your choice of command line access, kterm, ssh, telnet, etc.

We aren't trying to fix your PC, we are trying to troubleshoot the Kindle.

No need for the facepalm! - I know you are not trying to fix my PC & I appreciate your help. I tried to search for any remnants on the USB mounted Kindle drive.

When I looked up kterm, ssh (USBNetwork) - I couldn't find a way to install them without a working KUAL or mrpi on firmware 5.10.2. So I am in this vicious circle.

Is there a way to install USBNetwork so I can ssh into the kindle? The old .bin in the root & update kindle doesn't work on newer firmware & my mrpi is not installing it - same error as KUAL.

Install the most recent hotfix package, using UYK.

I have to keep asking until you answer, since I can't see over your shoulder.

Thanks for your patience - that did the trick - mrinstaller immediately began to work! It seems that the latest hotfix is a prerequisite for the latest mrinstaller.

Again - thanks for all your help!
