New firmware

Thanks for your reply. Not sure about the file manager name (it shows as Android File Manager with a file cabinet icon). I still cannot register Bookland. I have followed the instructions on the PB-int website and I tried the steps in post #474 above. My firmware version still shows Eclair, not Eclair PB701.2.0.3 . This is my first Android device, so I am not very familiar with this OS.

As far as the status bar goes, I get the same thing as the guy in post #442 "when I get to the update screen with the little droid, I get a yellow exclamation point caution sign and then my screen boots back to the original white home screen".

Have you tried redownloading the file and using a diferent app to open the 7-zip file on the PC?

I downloaded and used 7zip on windows xp machine. Someone else on this thread had used it successfully. I could see that it unzipped the file b/c new folders appeared.

You shouldn't be seeing folders...
The download is a 7-zip file containing a plain zip file and a PDF.
The zip file should go to the sd card's root as is.

The SD card has the following: three folders named download(contains three apk files), slideme(contains three folders named downloads, music, and images), and LOST.DIR(contains nothing), and one zip file 2.0.3user.7z. I see no PDF.

The .7z file needs to be extracted into its components, the true update file in zip format and the release notes pdf.
Once you do that, it should update.
(The other stuff is irrelevant to the update.)

Thanks, fjtorres. Your entry #485, "The download is a 7-zip file containing a plain zip file and a PDF", cleared things up. Once I moved the zip file from the original zip file into the root directory, I was able to update without problems.

Just received my IQ701 yesterday, and I'm getting acquainted with it. I've had no luck installing update, but this is early days and I'll understand it better as I gain more familiarity with the unit. It looks like an awesome machine with very good build quality.
I'll be lurking and reading your posts until/unless I really get jammed up, but for now I want to try to learn the machine on my own.
Eventually I'll want to store photos and art on it, but that's for the future.
Keep your posts coming and I'll read them all.

Upgraded to the latest firmware no problem, however still get the annoying white screen thanking me for choosing pocketbook and to update it! :/

Normal, and if so anyway to change this starting screen to something else?

Okay, I'm a bit confused. My PB360 screen broke so I just replaced it with a 6 inch reader but I have my dh's PB360 here and am trying to figure out if I should be upgrading the firmware. I believe it came with 15.1 but I notice it freezes a lot. Mine did too. I read there is now 15.3 which I have downloaded but I also read in this thread there were issues with epub in adobe. Can someone tell me if this was corrected?

That may have been one of my posts. I have tried every version of v15.3 (3 so far) that I've seen with EPUB and AdobeViewer. I think the last one I saw (8th Dec) no longer had the Themes problem but using the dictionary was problematic for me. It wasn't highlighting complete words. It also appeared that the hack which allows us to change the default epub fonts would not be possible on the 15.3 version. I'm totally underwhelmed by v15.3 so far.

I reverted to v15.2 each time, which has not crashed on me at all (but has for others). I use EPUB/AdobeViewer exclusively. The only niggly problems I have with v15.2 are:

- selecting words for dictionary look-up do not allow me to highlight the first or last word in a paragraph.
- epub images "balloon" when using zoom-sizes 4-6. 1-3 are fine.

The customised epub font hack works with no problem in v15.2.

I'm told it is possible to install v15.3 then also load the hacked v15.2 AdobeViewer as an alternative. I don't think I'll attempt this until we get a final v15.3 (if ever).

Thanks! I don't think my dh uses the dictionary or the font hacks. Insight try it to see if it is more stable. Decisions, decisions!

I've been using the latest beta firmware on my pb360 ever since it came out, and had no problems at all. Then yesterday I had exactly what's described above happen. I tried to change fonts in fbreader180 and the reader restarted itself. I tried taking off all fonts, or just some fonts, and I tried it on different books. It kept restarting, sometimes earlier (even once or twice as soon as I got to the settings menu), sometimes later (I got to open the fonts menu, and even had time to look at the font options before it crashed). What's so strange is that nothing at all changed from the last instance it worked perfectly to when it started crashing, no new firmware, nor fonts, nor books were loaded.

For the moment I think I'll downgrade to 14.2.
