TOC progress marks

On a side note, I wonder how difficult is to implement some TOC marks in the mini progress bar.

I'm attaching a screenshot of FBreader (that I think has the best approach for the progress bar from all the readers I used so far) that I took on the Android part of my Glo.

I am a little surprised that in the ota zsync file there is both a file name xxx.tar, and a file name of the url xxx.tar.gz. But this might be unrelated to the problem.
The source checked in my OTA settings, OTA Server is: http://vislab.bjmu.edu.cn/apps/koreader/ota/

Without starting WiFi in KSM, I tried all three listed and just got the "unavailable" message. I will give them a try with KSM's WiFi started.

I received an offer for an update on the source above (the others were unavailable) and started the update. Router's wireless led is blinking but it could be from something else. <Waiting>

While I am waiting I tried downloading from the source site directly to my PC. The first try died at 16%. A second try got me "koreader-kobo-arm-linux-gnueabihf-v2014.04-464-gd0b80d5.tar" downloaded.

Gave up waiting, no update.

Luck;
Ken

I cannot change the way Koreader shows the list of ebooks in File Manager, since they're all sorted by the author's name and all the efforts to get the list of ebooks by their names was in futility.

They should be sorted alphanumerically from the file name. I take it your files are named with the author's name first. You can use a renaming program on your PC, if you need to. I don't remember if the File Manager has a "Sort By" function, don't see it in the File Manager menus.

My file names contain the author name, but it comes at the end of their names. I've checked the file names and they're all OK, except Koreader only shows me their author names.
Since calibre stores them in folders, and each of these folders' names are the author name, I cannot see the file names in the File Manager, it shows only the folder name which is the author name.

Right, the problem seems the server rather than koreader.
I was expecting a tar.gz-file. Was your download to the pc successful? Or is the file invalide?

Yes the second try worked, and I just installed v2014.04-464. So far looks as I expected it to look. It includes the experimental search function for Calibre sideloaded books. (I'm not using calibre that way now so it didn't get very far.)

I tried the OTA Update without the WiFi on in KSM and it is still "unavailable".

If you are using Calibre that way, you should be interested in the new feature just added to Koreader by WS64. It should be in the next nightly released. If you can't wait you can download it off the OTA source server using your PC, see one of my posts above. I Have it running now.

using now the nightly build 455, and either I hadn't noticed before or it's been implemented now, I can finally read pdf's in landscape mode with the borders set outside the image frame (moving them there with manual page crop, but not by tipping but wiping!).

For those having trouble with OTA, try another mirror. chrox's master is hosted very, very far away from most of us, and even on a dedicated box with awesome peerings and bandwidth, it's nearly like I'm back on dialup .

If you can, try to monitor what's happening over a shell. It should first build a tarball of the current install (which might take ~30s of heavy I/O), and then start downloading the new version (hopefully, in the form of a delta, so, not much data needed).

AFAICT, there's no feedback in case of error, which might be a tad confusing.

The download I got off the OTA Server was more than a Delta. The /.kobo/koreader/ota folder includes a "package.index" which looks pretty inclusive.

So far when I try the other two servers listed, I just get the "unavailable" message. Haven't tried them on my PC, but the first one worked ( on the second try) so I haven't had to.

I could update the AuraHD that I have Bluetooth on, as that can send the console to my PC, and see what I get. Don't expect having both radios on will do my battery much good.
Maybe later tonight.

Luck;
Ken

@Ken Maltby: The server stores a full gzipped tarball, true, but zsync should be doing magic on its end to build a new non-gzipped tarball by only downloading a delta of the changes (hence the need to build a local tarball of the current install first).

(zsync is basically rsync w/ smart gzip handling over HTTP).

After downloading nightly 464 from the OTA source server, I was trying the new search function and I got an "LIBRARY_PATH in DEFAULTS.LUA is not set!"
But when I went to put the "/mnt/sd/.Books" or "/mnt/onboard/BOOKS" like the examples provided in the comments, Koreader did not start again, even after a complete reboot.
Any ideas?

@embryo: Ping @WS64 and/or open a GH issue.

Just one Q (the background info on your setup will be good to have no matter what): Do you actually use Calibre to send books to your device?

----

I've seen *one* (apparently) successful OTA update in my server logs, so it at least appears to work correctly on Kindle devices, and zsync did indeed do its magic (311KB downloaded instead of 12.8MB ).

That does sound like a great way to do it, but it looks like there is an issue getting it to work on Kobos. I noticed that there were both Kindle and Kobo versions on the OTA Server site. Perhaps the selection between Kobo and Kindle download files is having problems? It seems like it is very early in the update process that things end. Some feedback as it completes the stages of the process might help.

Ken
