Here's mine with the argument for reader.lua as: "/mnt/onboard" instead of the "/mnt/sd/.Koreader/Books" that I use to have File Manager open where I want it, in the first directory of the library of ebooks on my external SD card. The .sh file is inside the .rar file.

thanks Ken, I replaced the "koreader_kobo.sh" file of the koreader folder with yours from the rar, when I exit koreader via mnt/onboard, I get the Koreader png with header and footer, but a freeze forcing me execute a re-set.

what I'm trying to achieve, is a way to read those non OCR'd pdfs, fat volumes from archive org, huge margins, yellowish paper, and the page crop/scroll mode works fine already (in portrait and landscape), just a few finishing touches necessary, like the unwanted "cutted first line effect" (and I had to de-activate the sleep mode which got switched on after about 30 sec and interfered)

Not sure what "exit koreader via mnt/onboard" means, but when you poke the "Home" icon in the top menu of File Manager, you should see the full page Koreader PNG. You return to the Kobo software (Nickel) but the page is not automatically refreshed. You had to poke the screen to get the Header and Footer showing. In the header there is a "Home" icon, poke that to return to the Kobo Home page. If you just want to power off or sleep you can do it from when the full page Koreader PNG is displayed.

Non OCR'd PDFs are just images, for all practical purposes, and have never worked well on a small screen. I can read them on my AuraHD, but even there the text is smaller than I would normally like. There are work arounds but a larger screen is the best answer.

Luck;
Ken

What's in the "crash.log" file (in koreader folder) when it just has crashed? Oh, and: What version are you running?

Is it something wrong with gesture detection?
have older versions the same issue?

I have to say that I use your mod to koreader_kobo.sh to enter back nickel after exiting koreader.

Updated my Firmware to 3.1.1 last night and today's koreader.log has nothing before "Auto-detected Kobo" By the way the actual "crash.log" file has always been empty. If I see the problem today, I'll try it with the koreader_kobo.sh as it comes in the nightly build and see if that makes a difference.

Luck;
Ken

The jpeg rendering in Koreader is still a problem, including the cover image rendering, they used to look very good in Koreader before the last couple of builds.

Just updated to 3.1.1 and till now no problem at all...

Online this: using koread with standard koreader_kobo. Sh risults in a much faster and respinsive experience on My aura hd. With standard file is so slow that Hardly is usable

A little question: can you take annotations with Koreader?

@xping: I think you can rid of the "Config version to old" by deleting settings.reader.lua. It will automatically by created next time you start koreader.

@Ken & @xping: I had the same error message while hacking gesture support for the Aura. I didn't get in anymore since I finished that. That code is not used for any devices but Aura's (Kobo_phoenix). Also, I have had multiple koreader exits to Nickel without an error in the crash or debug logs.

Could you add debug output to koreader by changing your call to reader in koreader_kobo.sh to: ./reader.lua -d /mnt/your_library_location 1>koreader.log 2>&1 ?
I would be interested in the files koreader.log and ev.log which are generated after it exits to nickel unexpectedly.

If the problem continues you could do a test by switching the function Input:handleTouchEv(ev) in input.lua and uncommenting 2 lines in Input:handlePhoenixTouchEv(ev).

In input.lua in koreader/frontend/ui/ change
  • line 400: ~= to ==
  • line 662: remove --
  • line 665: remove --
The first change flips the function used for touch event input by changing not equal to equal, the 2nd and 3rd change uncomment a line which is not neccesary for Kobo Aura with multi touch. If the 'x' (a nil value) or 'y' (a nil value) errors disappear than it is easily fixed. I think that in the newer firmwares the touch events are just not as regular as they used to be and the code needs to restrict more.

Just made changes proposed: I deleted settings.reader.lua, adding to koreader_kobo.sh to have log files, modify to lines 400,662 and 665 of input.lua in UI.

I'm getting forced returns to nickel when I touch screen. It happens one time over ten. Here's a zip with important files.

Thx!
