I think sometimes it is an algorithm problem/difference. For example:

In both the US stores, The German War by Nicolas Stargardt is discounted but Kobo appears to use the hardcover list price while Amazon appears to use a digital list price.

The other two I checked today are Josh Lanyons Jefferson Blythe, Esquire and Sue Browns The Rogue Wolf.
Not sure about the Josh Lanyon (Carina/Harlequin is Agency in the US, not sure about the UK), but the other three aren't from Agency publishers (which is why codes work on them). This means the publisher suggests a list price, but doesn't set the actual price it has to be sold for. A retailer can choose to sell at the list price (and many titles are sold that way) or to discount the title all they want (although IIRC there are some places where by law they must make a profit on the sale).

I generally find for books I'm interested in that I need at minimum a 45% code or often 50% to make it worth me getting it from Kobo (for non-Agency titles of course). The exception being for most self pubbed titles where Amazon tends to usually stick with the author's set price as does Kobo. For those even the smaller codes make Kobo cheaper.

Maybe wait until allromanceebooks has rebate? It might end up the same price, but they should count toward their rewards program.
I would love to hear impressions on Megan Derr book.

I know that some (VERY, VERY FEW) indies will price their books taking coupons into account (because we pay for a lot of those discounts out of our share). It's quite possible that Samhain and some of the smaller publishers are doing the same thing. That is not to say that I approve of the practice, but I have seen indies push their price up right before a sponsored listing so that they don't actually give up the 30 percent (or whatever). Not all coupons are sponsored by authors -- Kobo does sponsor quite a few things, including the Trivia coupons. In fact, Kobo is quite generous in sponsoring a number of the promotions.

It may be that some publishers feel that prices in Canada are expected to be higher so they go ahead and price accordingly.

I have seen some self-pubs that do price their stuff $1 more on Kobo than at Amazon or B&N, but haven't noticed if that was only during certain promos or an all the time thing.

On Samhain though the books have the same list price everywhere (Kobo, B&N, Amazon, AllRomance, etc.) and are discounted from there so I don't think there are any shenanigans going on in that regard.

I used to buy a lot from Allromance but since the UK imposed 20% Vat they are far too expensive. Unfortunately rarely does anyone have a lower price than Amazon.

It will be a while before I get to the Megan Derr book but I do like her stuff generally. I'm a book buying addict, I guess I read probably one in ten of the books I buy.

I do plan to read them all, honest, just stock pilling for my retirement.

Agree on Samhain. I only used them as a small pub because they came to mind.

Josieb1 -- I also used to buy from All Romance ebooks, mainly because of their 10-get-1 code. But lately I found myself leaning more towards Kobo, especially during the time when I can get codes. Even with codes around 30% will mean a lot for me. Sure, ARe has that free code but their promotion also tend to be rebate. While sometimes I need to the discount RIGHT NOW, you know what I mean *lol*

Bought that Megan Derr's book awhile ago with full price on ARe (but they had the 50% rebate) but haven't read it. So many books piling up. Maybe during end year holiday

I wonder what changes are going on at Kobo. There have been 3 days this week when I havent been able to access the site due to scheduled maintenance. Its a PITA as the time it is down is our peak online time.
I know that the chances of there being anything worth using my codes on are slim, but it'd still be nice to check.

Yep, I ran into that a few hours ago, too. Seems a bit odd to shut down for maintenance during a contest. Of course, it also seems odd to release unlimited use coupons during a contest.
