Thanks. Since it worked for you, I put more effort into it and I finally figured it out. The email link sent me to Kobo's Canadian website (en-CA). When I changed it to the US one (en-US) it gave me the $5.

I don't know if it's changed in the recent contests because fewer codes have been posted since Kobo started hardening the contest (and breaking it), but in the past (as in last year), I randomly checked postings with codes less than 30%, and I don't think I ever found more than a couple that were used. I note that either your code has been used or it's not a US code. Ah, I was under the impression that a US contest code only worked at the US site, etc., and that the contest codes don't work at all on sites not running the contest.

I received the same e-mail. The credit is applied on my account, added to my store credit balance. Fine print says (emphasis mine):

The $5 addition to your account is a limited time offer and may only be redeemed for eBooks and magazines. The total amount of $5 will be removed from the customer's account if not used partially, or in full by 11:59 PM EST, on June 15, 2015. This offer is only available in Canada and the US.

What pressure to find something to use it on! I'm assuming I just need to put a dent on it and the remaining credit is mine…although with Kobo, we really never know.
