I sent KOBO an email about not getting the refer a friend codes. 2 customer service reps answered.

The first one asked me to send a screenshot of my friend's purchase as proof - -which is is ridiculous. Before I could respond, the second customer service rep asked me to provide my friend's email address.

I'm not sure...my friend is actually my daughter so we have the same billing address. Do you think that matters?

Susan do you and your daughter share the same email address?

If she has her own email address and you share the same billing details that is still valid. Think of all the husbands and wives who have different kobo acounts but use the same payment account details, and the parents of children under the age of credit card entitlement.

In fact, the Refer promo was perfect for getting young people to create an account.

My family won 2 ereaders using two different accounts and they were shipped to the same address. It was kobo that picked up the fact that they were to be simultaneously shipped and they asked if they could be placed in the one parcel which of course we agreed to.

I managed to also get a 100% coupon with no expiry date (according to CS) as "compensation" for the contest glitch. Works in any country, as far as I can tell.

No we have different email addresses. I'll provide it to them and see what happens. Thanks for your help

I'm not seeing the choice for either a gift card or Paypal in the India store. Are those payment methods no longer an option there?

With my many trips to India there has never been a PayPal option and so I always used gift cards.

I have logged in to my account now to check and you are correct, the gift card option has vanished

I still have about $20 credit there but was waiting for the discount codes to reset before buying anything further - especially after their price hike not so long ago

I hope they aren't going to clamp down now

Does anyone know if Kobo release new books on a certain day of the week, or just randomly throughout the the week?
I am very impatiently waiting for a book that is supposed to be released 'around mid May' and am getting tired of checking 30 times a day, every day.

Publishers set the release date, not Kobo.

While that's true, my experience with Kobo has been that unless it's deemed to be a pretty popular book or big published book, it may take awhile to show up on Kobo. That can mean days, or weeks. Also, generally I've found that if it's not there first thing in the morning, it probably won't show up during the day, but probably not until after 4-5 EST. Maybe that's when they update their servers or something, it's just what I've noticed. It's always hit or miss with Kobo, as with all things to do with them. Hope that helps.

Most books come out on Tuesdays from big publishers. If Kobo then has a delay, well, probably not Tues. If it is a major publisher and it is still "mid-May" it is likely going to be late. Those dates get set and then a pre-release is usually available for one to two months. If it's indie, just write and ask the author for the release date or check the author blog. In any case, it might make sense to check the author blog for an update.

When reading up on "when to make pre-release sales available" the general agreement is to do it at least one month ahead of time, but sometimes it's much longer. I have no idea if every book goes on sale pre-release or not.
