Yes, but really the point (if you had quoted my complete post) was not "where has the Where is my thread sticky gone". Rather it was that by moving the Where is my thread sticky to the Feedback forum - which is at the very bottom of the forums page (third from bottom, out of 49 - if I just counted correctly) and pretty obscure (currently 4 people there vs. 55 in this forum) - complaints are pretty effectively quashed.

Don't get me wrong, I still like MR a lot, but every time I've disagreed with something "official" that has been done in one of the forums, the discussion has rather quickly been sent to the Feedback forum, and there it dies fast.

Here's the missing relevant sentence from my post:

Quote:
To me, moving stuff to the buried-at-the-bottom-of-the-list Feedback forum is pretty much just a way to get it off folks' radar screens - most folks won't follow it there.

I just mentioned it as I tried it anyway. An author I follow sent it out on a newsletter but she didn't know it was country specific. I found the post here after I tried it.

Unfortunately, the book I want ("Poor Fellow My Country", by Xavier Herbert) has never had a code that worked.

I've come to the conclusion that I'll have to pay full price if I want to read it.

50JUN still working today, so seems they set it up correctly. Any mention of it on their website, though, seems to be gone. Yesterday it was plastered everywhere.

50JUN finished?

Bought over 20 books with this in the past few days. Just tried again and it didn't work. Of course, that makes me want this book even more.... Grrrr

It was supposed to work through today, but you just never know. It does appear to have stopped working.

You can borrow it online from here:
https://openlibrary.org/search?q=Poor+Fellow+My+Country

Download the PDF - it reads better than the mobi / epub that they have automatically generated using OCR as they are a total mess.

I'll check that out. -- THANK YOU!

Are you saying that the version available from Kobo is NOT a very good version?

50JUN is now back to working, in Canada & the US, at least. It stopped in Canada sometime yesterday evening (just as I was about to checkout ) and I didn't think it was really going to do any good, but I used the chat function to notify Kobo customer support that their 3-day promo had ended on the 2nd day and sent a Feedback as well, and when I checked again earlier this morning I thought that would be it since it still wasn't working after about 7 hours, even though they still had the 50% off promo banner up on the frontpage (since replaced with the Emerging Authors).

But they seem to have fixed it now, who knows for how long, and I was able to apply it to my intended cart contents just now and get my books at half-off. And I spot-checked in the US and it seems to apply there as well, though I didn't checkout.

I was feeling pretty disgruntled last night and planning to clear everything out of my cart except for the 2 non-couponable sale books from favourite authors that I absolutely wanted to get once I woke up, since I wasn't expecting Kobo to do anything about it. Especially since they took down the promo banner, which looked like their way of quietly ignoring the problem.

But since they actually did go and fix and reinstate the code in time, I think I'm going to reward them and myself with a bit more of a splurge, pour encourager les autres.

Oh good. They tend to have pretty weird timing on some of these things--the US started way early and they took that banner down over the weekend. Then Canada stopped working pretty early...as I said a few posts back--when they have a coupon that is working, don't delay. Get what you want because who knows how long it will work!

He means that the epub from OpenLibrary is probably not a good version.

I've borrowed several books from OL, but they use unedited scans of books from the Internet Archive, and they're usually annoying and occasionally unreadable.

Got it!

I downloaded the file, and it is HUGE! Something a bit over 200 megs. And very yellowish.

Hey you have totally got me! I want to read Lee Kuan Yew's autobio and being able to borrow from OL was such a bliss as the hardcopy is like a four bricks tied together... Ok I am exaggerating but it's close! They have released the 1st part of this autobio in ebook now but still no 2nd half.
