PDF/CBZ/CBR pagination feature, aka the only reason I use alternative pdf readers: when a page is zoomed in, tapping to go the next/previous page simply shifts the viewport down/up respectively rather than loading the next page. This improves PDF reading immensely and almost makes them not a pain to read. Almost.

RMSDK has little to do with Kobo, Kobo's own engine does not support kerning.

Except that if you read epubs, you use the RMSDK. Only kepubs use the ACCESS based reader that doesn't do kerning.

I want to buy books from the device and read without dealing with Calibre or anything like that. Connect to the wifi of my phone, buy, read. Kobo is the only international ebook store (besides Smashword and the like) that sells to Turkey, that was my main reason to choose it. But I won't read kepub files if I have to read them with bad typography. Kerning shouldn't even be something we have to ask for!

I had taken kerning for granted while buying the device. That there might not be any was beyond my comprehension.

Is kerning too much to ask? If they can't support it, I at least demand an explanation!

I don't even know what "kerning" is, and I'm pretty sure that a majority of the people in the world are just like me. Don't know, don't care, just want to read.

What does "kerning" do to make it easier to read?

It is spacing between individual letterforms. Read an epub and kepub with a sideloaded typeface like Storm Baskerville, you will notice the difference right away. Kerning is something almost every printed book have. This:

Ok...so is this something that should be controllable by the device? Or by the publisher? Which one of those lines is how you think it should look? What would kerning do if a person used sans serif fonts? (I never use serif fonts, it makes it much harder for me to read)

It is not controllable much, it is a feature inherent in the type itself. Centuries ago, types had kern pairs like Tecast in metal. Today ttf and otf files carry kerning pairs. The font files has kerning values, the job of the device is to correctly show them. Publishers can choose to disable them within the font in CSS3. Publishers can also choose a typeface without kerning pairs but removing them or altering them within the typeface itself won't play well with licences.

The picture I copied only shows different kerning values. In the final product there will only be one of them (I believe third one is the best but it depends on the type designer).

Serifs doesn't matter at all. This is a sans serif:

As you see, kerning there in all books you read. Go to your library and check this pairs: Vo, Te, ll and you will notice it.

Then you should go back and edit your message to say you want kerning support in ACCESS. Because as has been said, RMDSK supports kerning. As it is just saying you want kerning looks like an error.

Have you tried using different fonts when reading kepubs direct from the store? When I look at a book using the Amasis font, it seems to do what you want it to do.

It seems Amasis, Kobo Nickel and Gill Sans show kernings. No other typeface shows them, including sideloaded typefaces. This only makes my point stronger, it now appears there is kerning support but only in three typefaces.

How hard it would be to enable it systemwide?

You would need a font with kerning added to it. A lot of fonts do not have kerning.
