IIRC, it's linked to in the JB sticky and/or the index already?

It would make sense to sticky this thread to be fair - it'd definitely more worthy than say, the dead IRC channel that nobody uses.

Unsticking the IRC thread has been suggested several times, but never seems to happen.

Not necessarily, I don't recall making any significant updates in the last year.
On the other hand, it can't really hurt (unless I borked the last update ![]() |

Hey NiLuJe, I am trying to use my Tolino Epos 1 (which is very, very close to the Kobo Aura One) as a digital picure frame (without any reading functionality): https://www.upwork.com/jobs/~0112e0fcf83545dd80
Could you tell me how I could run Python on the Tolino? Could I try to install your kindle-python hack? Or is there a better way (like installing Debian Linux)? |

I have zero experience with Tolinos (and you're in the Kindle forum ^^).

Quick set of questions to doublecheck:
1) RescuePack and Coward's RescuePack still do not support any Kindle model with "androidized" layout? If so, is that because it is not possible from technical standpoint (things like bootloader procedure?) or it is just that nobody had time to make the necessary changes? 2) new Paperwhite 5 (the one with larger 6.8" screen) has "androidized" layout? I'll probably transition from PW3 to using PW5 now that the new jailbreak exploit has been announced for fw 5.14.x so checking to know what to except in terms of recoverability and ability to downgrade firmware in the future. 1/ Yes (and no idea).
2/ Possibly, although the partition layout is closer to older devices (or not, don't quote me on that, it's not near me right now). TL;DR: Right now, the answer to your questions is: don't screw it up ![]() |

To expand on the first point, there's no RP/CRP support for any device after KT3 because both hacks rely upon the presence of a diags partition, something that the newer devices lack.
That said, if we had the ability to flash a custom U-Boot build to the newer devices, something along the lines of RP/CRP would still be possible - here's an example of CRP implemented directly within the bootloader itself that I use on some of my older devices. Unfortunately, I can't see this happening anytime soon (read: probably ever) due to some form of Secure Boot being implemented on every device post KT3. |
