OMG! This is freaking awesome. With embedded fonts, line-height, soft hyphenation, and now negative margins, this now makes the PW2 that much better and close to perfect since there is no JB yet (if ever).

Shhhhuussssshhhhh, every one! If Amazon hears us they might ruin our little party! Apparently they see themselves as the self-appointed eBook formatting cops.

Njeeh... I've tried to add extra CSS to Calibre for the KPW1, but it doesn't work, not even in the P-tag. I'm NOT going to modify all of my books on CSS level to gain one word per line and running the risk that this modification wreacks havock on future e-readers.

If I can't do it by converting to AZW3 with extra CSS, then it won't be done.

Would you mind posting a sample? I've tried modifying another eBook, but the margins did not change. I'd like to know what I might be doing wrong.

This--I'd love to reduce the current margins on my PW2, but unfortunately I don't have the knowledge and time to do this to my files on my own. If it was an easy conversion to run through Calibre, I'd be all over it.

I attached the ePub I created and used to convert with Kindle Previewer.

Also, refer to this earlier post. The CSS works when used for P tags. It doesn't work for the BODY tag or using the selector * for ALL tags.

EDIT: I re-attached the ePub. I had forgotten to remove the fonts the first time, now they are gone and the file is small.

Okay, but I have to warn you that I've got worse CS than even Kobo does!

EDIT: Oops, looks like you edited your post so now my reply doesn't make sense.

Whoozaaah! My first truly successful Ninja Edit

Spoiler:

A ninja edit is an change made to a published post or article (typically on a bulletin board) that preempts the first response made. Often, the existence of the ninja edit is only made clear by a reference to the mistake or inconsistency in the original article by the response. In such a case, the author of the response began writing before the ninja edit, but submitted the response after the ninja edit had been made.

How did you convert it? Calibre or Kindle Previewer? I used Kindle Previewer.

Calibre. Should I try again using Kindlegen? (Kindle Previewer uses Kindlegen.)

Normally I don't do conversions with Kindlegen, because it generates huge files. It creates a .mobi, which contains old mobi, new KF8, *AND* the complete EPUB source, apparantly.

I only use Kindlegen as a last resort (as with the huge DelphiClassics EPUBs), and then split the AZW3 off of it.

If you really want to, I can try if the KPW supports it that way, but then I'll still not use it. I'm not going to modify my base EPUB books especially for one type of reader, before conversion.

You can try Kindlegen if you want to try it on PW1, but not really necessary. The important thing is that it works on PW2, and we already know it does.

Until next month

I can't make DejaVu Serif Condensed bolder using FontForge. The fracking application crashes if I try to do that. It did work for the normal DejaVu Serif; barely.
I already use on my Kobo Glo both Charis Sil modified and Dejavu e-ink. After reading this post, I tried to modify Linux Libertine otf fonts. Alas, fontforge send me a cryptic message: "Incorrect number for Serif Height Fuzz" and my expected contribution to the free font paradise fell flat...

Could some expert have a try at it? I only joined the italic and regular fonts

So I tried doing this with Calibre, but it does not work. I tried using negative margins in the p tag using various px and pt from 10 to 40 with no change. There must be something magical about KindleGen. I haven't learned how to use kindlegen yet but it was disappointing to see that the ebook mothership, Calibre, couldn't handle the job.

I am going to look at the provided samples here and compare css codings with the attempts I made.
