Why so many newbies with so much karma? - Page 33

While I wasn't here for the implementation of karma, I suspect it was a practical joke by the admins, directed at users who were asking for a reputation system on the board. I would class MR's karma as a satire of reputation systems on other forums. It is, however, aptly named: the precise workings of karma are one of Buddhism's four "imponderables."

), I've noticed here and elsewhere that many, many people misspell "palindrome" in a very specific way: dropping the n. It's less often used, but proportionately as common as substituting "weary" for "wary." What's up with that?

You know, it's probably coded directly into the forum template. I used to run my own forum and it had a pre-coded karma system already added. I either allowed it or not.

And yes, it was named "karma" and each person started with just 10 karma points.

ok, so whats reputation, and what effect does reducing it have? if i use all of it, do i now own no rep? utterly strange - to- me system here

I think there are several (maybe modules) possible karma system addable to this boardsoft. I've been on forums running it exactly like here but have also seen a +1/-1
thumb-per posting system (with reciever readable comments like here)

and some of us just can't spell. and spell checker does not work at the office and we are too lazy to type everything in word first to check for spelling and grammar errors.

And by some of us I mean me.

There is no way to reduce it, it purely up. Outside of this thread, its a merely way to thank a poster for a great post of some kind (Funny, Helpful, Clever, etc). In side this thread.. its become a bit of a strategic war game of ppl making and breaking special numbers

Primes (above 2) are only odd, so can only be give to people with odd karma.

Right now, I give out karma in powers of two depending on how useful/entertaining the post is for me. Right now it's a scale from 1-10 with the lowest I'll give being 2^3 and the highest being 2^12. Yeah, I'm geeky.
