The Paris Meridian was abandoned in favor of the Greenwich Meridian at the Washington International Conference of 1884. I imagine the French weren't very happy about this, so in the discussions before the vote the British agreed to adopt the metric system in exchange. Sounds like a fool's bargain to me

Right now there's a basket filter with dried tea leaves in my cup. This will be transformed into steeped tea in a few minutes.

I think going metric is a small price to pay for not being on PMT(*) half the year...
