And, through the kindness of neighbours with 4 wheel drive and serious snow tires, we have enough pellets to get through the holiday weekend. One duck is smoked, the other thawing in the fridge, and we're as ready for guests as we can be. Time to kick back and have a bit of pizza and a largish Talisker.

Fresh, hot spiced cider. Our baker's husband made a huge carafe of it for market customers. So lovely to see our community come out in the utterly frigid (for us Southerners) weather to support all the local farmers at the farmer's market!

A really rather nice Okanagan Pinot Noir, the 2020 Blue Mountain Estate Cuvee. A lovely earthiness, with no hint of that "cherry bomb" that some Pinot Noirs get. A good value for a mid-range Pinot. I hadn't had it before, but it was a good choice.*

Tonight - gonna open my Xmas gift from me to me -- Lagavulin 11 yr. Charred Oak Cask limited edition - it's a beautiful dark mahogany color - can't wait to sample its peaty goodness

It really is true. I never think of drinking it when it's warm and sunny, or even cool and sunny. But let the gloom and the rain in, and it's the first thing I reach for.

I hadn't had it before, but it was a good choice.* * Spoiler: I used to drink quite a lot of California and Oregon Pinot, but then I started getting red wine headaches. So I'm not going to risk that for bad wine. But British Columbia is making some really excellent Pinot Noirs at nearly affordable prices. This Blue Mountain reminded me strongly of some Rochioli Pinot Noirs I've had at a far steeper price.
