Note, I removed the backslash. I think @Tanjamuse was just trying to use the single backslash to escape the slash but that's not needed inside [ ]. That tripped me up, too.

Thanks that works well with the S&R and saves me from having to run it all again in the saved metadata-column.

Lol, standardizing metadata can be frustrating. Particularly so for AO3. Job Spy has been heaven sent.

Goodness knows my personal.ini file would be unmanageable if I handled all the tag replacement and purge rules there. At least now I can do my tag wrangling via spreadsheet with a nice column layout, sorting and filtering.

Hi, I'm wondering if there's any way to force the plugin to read from a Wayback Machine archive of a story. There are multiple stories that I'd like to add that have been deleted from either ff.net or AO3, but are available on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Like this for example: https://web.archive.org/web/20120413...Because_Redeux Obviously the adapter wouldn't know what to do with that because of all the junk that the wayback machine adds, but if I use this link instead: https://web.archive.org/web/20120413...Because_Redeux It should be a lot closer to what the adapter is expecting to see. The only problem I can think of is that it has the circa 2012 formatting for the site, not the 2018 formatting. Anyway, is there any way to force fanficfare to make an ebook out of that, or am I going to have to do it manually?

@catlover1019 - That was asked and discussed a bit last year, but nothing ever came of it. My opinions haven't changed.

I didn't see a note in the latests releases, though I may have missed it, but I noticed that the email download now parses the royalroad click tracking links. I wanted to say thanks, it's appreciated.

I also wanted to ask a question regarding the email downloader to see if it's only me that it's happening to. When I run email download sometimes it takes up hours to run even with only a couple dozen emails to parse, and it freezes up calibre until it's done. It's not a huge deal, I just make sure to run it at night before I go to bed so it doesn't bother me when I'm trying to use calibre during the day, but I wondered if it was normal.

FanFicFare searches for story URLs in all the unread emails in the folder you've pointed it at.

That only takes a few seconds for me, but I use a separate folder (in a separate email account) that only receives my fic notices.

If you are having FanFicFare search your regular inbox with a ton of unread emails in it, then it will take longer. Although hours seems excessive unless you have hundreds or thousands of unread emails.

When you first released the email plugin I made a separate email address specifically for it and had everything forward there. The ONLY things in that email are for fic updates. I'll have to log in and double check it, but I've never used the email for anything else and the last time I looked it only had story updates in it, and it's been happening like this for along time. Maybe now that everything's parsed completely I'll delete everything and see if that (for some reason) changes anything.

Specifically, I want to write category information (the fandom, eg "Harry Potter") into the series column.

Putting category_label:Series in your personal.ini will change the label of that field inside the ebook title page, but that's all.

I can see some promising options in the default.ini, but given the above-mentioned reality of adding them to the personal.ini, will it work?

I'm aware that it'll number them, which isn't really the correct way, it's how I've been doing it (manually) for years (using fanfictiondownloader.net), and I'd like to completely automate the process now that I've discovered this add-on, without having to manually add it every download.


Btw, @JimmXinu, the reason I confused the category & series tag is that when using fanfictiondownloader & epub format, it automatically uses the fandom as the series.

I directed you over here with the thought you might see how other people use metadata.

But if you are committed to doing it this way:

The actual series will not be shown anywhere.

Keep in mind this FAQ:

Why shouldn't I just select my entire library and use FanFicFare plugin to check for updates?

Excessive downloading can get you blocked temporarily.

Thanks! I suppose it's easier (and cheaper) for them to simply block users instead of getting cloudflare or custom ddos protection.
Then again, given that it's mean loaded every few minutes as you finish a chapter, I do understand their reasoning.

I mostly keep my local library as a backup/for whenever the internet's down (given the state of copyright now, I want to have a local backup), and my normal "usecase" is just waiting for those emails, reading the chapter and eventually (but now immediatly given how easy it has become) updating it.



PS: another small question for you: is there a way to auto-accept the "do you want to add new books" message that pops up after the plugin's finished?



Given that the Count Pages plugin also has it, my assumption is that this is Calibre behavior and not on a per-plugin basis?
