The longer I use it the more faults I find with the Japanese dictionary mode. Particularly when reading the Harry Potter books, it uses a lot of <ruby>. While the Kobo is able to display that correctly, it seems to confuse the dictionary selection a lot.

It just won't let me select words, particularly those made up of more than one <ruby> so it doesn't cross boundaries. I've already merged adjacent <ruby> definitions into one (which causes minor formatting issues as it can't seem to line-break them). Even so, I just can't select some things, it randomly decides to go a page forward or backward instead.

Also it's very time consuming to move the word boundary selectors; sometimes it doesn't register and just un-selects everything and I have to start over, or it moves them to a strange place and suddenly the entire text on the page is highlighted.

When tapping some word, it decides to show me the dictionary entry for the kana/particle following the kanji, as if anyone seriously wanted to look that up in a dictionary.

Of course the fault is my own, I have to look up wayyy too many words. :^)

It's great to have this dictionary but I keep wishing I were back in Firefox with Rikaichan.

Let's hope for positive side effects (the more annoying the dictionary lookup, the more worthwhile to actually remember stuff you looked up once, eh?)

Yeah I know your pain! Ruby often confuses the dict lookup, but not always. And moving handles is often a good luck game.

Long time ago it was even much worse, when I wrote a blog about comparing Kindle and Kobo for Japanese reading.

Click-on-word selection would be nice - select the biggest continuous set of same class glyphs (Hira, Kata, Kanji), like the Kindle is doing it. If I could see the source code I could dive into fixing that, though...

I forgot - yes, Rikaichan is the one and only one has to measure against. Absolutely spectacular, recognized inflected words even.
